No problem about the links! Happy to share:

http://aquaticfrogs.tripod.com/id1.html

http://www.pipidae.net/

http://faq.thekrib.com/begin-cycling.html

Also, I am a member of the yahoo group "froggyfriends" & the people are very knowledgable & nice. I think there is a link to that discussion board from the first link above (aquaticfrogs).

Pipidae is a great website to read thru for info, but I prefer froggyfriends (more personal).

The 3rd link is a GREAT way to learn about the whole tank-cycling thing to prevent that whole "new tank syndrome" for Aquatic Clawed frogs ("ACF"). They are more sensitive to "new tank syndrome" than turtles are.

Here is a GREAT post about water temp & other things for your frog (quoted from the froggyfriends yahoo group post they sent me today):

"this is the time of year where we start to see a lot of problems with
novice ACF owners. My email and the groups also get full more and
more as we progress into the hotter months. Here are some things to
consider now that the temps are on the rise!

ACF are COOL WATER FROGS! their temperature should not excede 75 F if
you can avoid it. here are some tips to help you keep your tank
cooler...

*turn off any incandescent lighting since this type produces heat

*if for some reason you have a heater...TURN IT OFF!

*monitor tank temp. with a thermometer that hangs inside the
tank! "stick on" ones are very inacurate since they only measure the
temp. of the glass, not the actual water temp.

*If temps are still high, move the tank to a cooler location such as
a basement or near an AC vent.

*For those w/o AC remove the hood, drop water level 3 inches and tape
screen across the top to prevent escapes. position a fan at suface
level (if possible) or in front of the tank. Circulating air across
the water surface will drastically keep it cooler.

*prevention is key to curing disease! use one rounded tablespoong of
aquarium salt PER 5 gallons of water. salt naturally prevents
bacteria and fungus from thriving and multiplying in the water. also
use a product called Koizyme. this is a natural living bacteria that
competes with "bad bacteria" in the tank water, naturally "starving"
it out so your frogs dont get infected. use one drop in your tank
once a week. to purchase this produce go here www.xenopus. com. i have
used the salt along with koizyme religiously for 7 years...IT WORKS!

*increase on water changes (or for you slackers) regular water
changes of 25 % a week with COOL water will help keep bacteria from
blooming and infecting your frog. this also includes vaccuming the
gravel! which harbors organic matter that bacteria thrives on.

some people have reccomended floating bags of ice cubes or frozen
water bottles in the tanks. this may help short-time but will not
help in the long run. floating ice in the tank can also create fast
fluxuations in the temperature and create cold spots in the water.
which can stress the frogs more. if you cant possibly cool your water
down by trying other methods then make sure you perform very good
matience, because a stable temperature (even if high), is better then
one that is constantly fluxuating.

i hope some of these tips help you prepare for the summer season. an
increase in temperature will lead to an increase of bacteria within
the tank (it thrives at higher temps). this will cause many bacterial
problems within the frogs that can appear as ulcers, tumors
(bacterial swellings), bugging/cloudy eyes (sign of internal
bacterial problems), lethargy and hanging at surface, excessive
shedding with skin still haning from legs, sudden bloating and death.

we get a wave of emails in the beginning summer months with "help my
frog is sick!" usually in the subject line. these emails die out
during the winter time and i will only get 2-3 in my email in the
cold months. in my experience of ACF keeping i have used the advice
given above and it has saved me frogs! please feel free to ask any
questions and i will help you out as best as i can. cool water, salt,
koizyme and regular water changes will keep your frog healthy and
protected all year long, especially during the hot months.

i hope this helps anyone! let us know if you have tried a diffrent
techinique that works too."

No special lighting or basking area required. They are fully-aquatic which means they spend 100% of their time in the water. Also, you have to keep a lid on the tank for these guys since sometimes they can find a way to hippity-hop out of the tank which is really bad because then they are in danger of drying out & die (like a fish out of water).

For my frog, I use my old UVB light since it doesn't put out any heat. A UVA bulb can heat up the water too much & just like turts, they don't respond well to temp fluctuations.

They also don't like water turbulance since they have "motion sensors" running along their backs & very strong water filters which stir up the water too much are discouraged since it can stress them.

I had to take special precaution to buy items for the tank which are polished & smooth. Even his little "house" that he can hideout in is a smooth soft plastic so it doesn't cut him.

Despite the "exotic" look, Aquatic clawed frogs actually are a very common frog & fairly hearty. Like turts, they should not be released into a non-native habitat since they can take over...!
