He does. He prefers to get to the house via the sidewalk and the patio. :D

How did your guys react when they first saw the great out-of-doors? Were they filled with awe?

My guys had funny reactions. They both froze at first. Then Spike took off to explore, and Sparky climbed onto my foot and into my pant leg. He just sat on my foot, and I thought it was kind of cute, even if he doesn't seem to like the outdoors.
