According to the website, that turtle actually was born with no eyes so the lack of eyes in this case is a naturally occuring mutation. HOWEVER, I have seen online where breeders do have more than just one of these "mutants" and sell them for $350-$400. Sick.

Shreyas, I sent you a message about this but I will say it again here: since you live in India, I am not sure where you can adopt a discarded turtle, but I would check with "PETA" organization or do a search for animal rescue society. PETA is a world-wide organization so maybe they can help you find what you need. :) Good luck!

It's sad that some people will purposely breed for deformed turtles. But I guess it's even sadder that people will pay alot of money for them.

the really sad part is that perfectly healthy babies are dumped and left to die in favour of the mutations.

two headed sliders are siamese twins. ALL "identical twin" turtles are born conjoined. there just isnt enough room in one little egg for 2 shells so they just come out that way.

The two-headed mutation is actually something that reptiles are more prone to have. Don't remember exactly why, but I read an article about two headed snakes that appear from time to time. As long as both heads are properly formed, they can usually survive.

As far as breeding specifically for deformities, I also think it is disgusting. But it is far more common than most people realize. You know those really funny looking (and expensive) goldfish at the petstores? The ones with the bulging eyes, or the frilly stuff coming out their nasal openings, or the giant bellies? Those are all specially bred for these genetic deformities. The problem is that some of these deformities are detrimental to the health and wellbeing of the animal. They can survive and grow the way they are, but the question comes into play, can they feel the pain or discomfort that would normally come with such a deformity? I personally wouldn't want to take that chance.

I feel very, very bad for both the mutants and the healthy babies. Being borne with two heads or without eyes (or even both); being dumped somewhere to die; I would hate all those situations. I can't believe how crual some people are, especially for no true reason! Why not sell a watermellon on Ebay for $200? I can almost gaurenteee someone will buy it.
I have two baby RES; Emerald(Emmie or Rocky for short, plus she has green ears!) and Pretty. (Don't ask me about her name. My brother named her. He's only 6 1/2.)

i guess it needs a lot of care.
but what happends if one head wanted to go one way and the other head another way?
its a beauty though!
i agree.
some people are so cruel to turtles with handicaps, its not thier folt!
i would still love them anyway!
