Yea, when I feed my girl her thawed rats, I am very careful to make sure to use long metal tongs and that I am directly opposite of the rat from her mouth. She's over 6ft now and her strike is lethal. When she smells that rat, forget it! Anything that moves is will make her strike lightening fast!

I don't know much about snakes, but where do you house them when they get to be 6ft long? I can't even imagine having an animal that large in my house

Meg, I built a custom wall unit that's 96in long x 30in deep x 72in high. It's divided up into 4 compartments. The boa's space is 66in long x 30in deep x 30in high. The ball python lives next door and her space is 30in x 30in x 30in. Below them is the male bearded dragon in a 36in x 30in x 30in space and next to him are the 4 females in a 60in x 30in x 30in space. The upper two units are humidity controlled by a cool mist humidifier and are heated by regular lights by day and thermostatically controlled red lights by night. They also benefit from the heat of the dragons lights below them, plus at night the heat from the dragons enclosures rise as they cool off. I designed it this way since the boa and the ball are more tropical, both requiring warmer temps at night. While the dragons are desert dwelling and prefer a cool down at night.
I take both the snakes out regularly for more exercise. In the winter, the boa likes to investigate the family room which has a double sliding glass door facing the south so there's plenty of sunlight. In the summer she crawls around the back yard. I'm going to build her a jungle gym out of logs for her to climb on this summer.
