So I thought I'd post a little update of Baby Turtle Ever's tank. For those of you who need a reminder of the mess I started with, you can go here:

And here's a closeup of Baby Turtle. I have a quick question though. Are those ridges you see on his shell normal? Or should I be concerned? I didn't remember him having those before.

Take out the heat rock!!! I have never seen one that was suppose to be that close to the water. if you have a heat lamp that is all the heat you need for him.

Yes, a heat rock in a aquarium is VERY VERY dangerous!!

Also, are you getting a UVB light? Or do you have one already?

Cool idea with the island though...but take your the heat rock and put a real one to replace it!

The bumps could mean pyramiding...

Cute turtle. How big is BT (shell length without the curve)?

If you're really concerned about the shell, can you post another pic of it dry from a different angle that better shows the ridges you're talking about?

thanks everyone for the comments. I know I've been advised against the heat rock, but turtle just seemed to like it so much, i couldn't bear to take it out. But I guess safety is more important. I'm getting a UVB lamp as soon as I can find one. The pet stores here are very limited, and I haven't found one yet. Any suggestions? I'll try to get a picture of the ridges from a different angle.

Buy on-line. It's much cheaper and the selection would be greater than at the stores you say you have near you.

What kind of UVB light are you looking for? Tube flourescentt or compact flourescent?

that is a great improvement!
but i agree with tenodera,
it isnt the best idea to have that heat rock that close to water;
they arent built to be water proof, even if its not physically in water, its very susceptible to moisture/condensation since it creates heat and is that close to the water, which could cause corrosion, and possibly send a shock through the water, or even worse, catch on fire.

also, if you remove the heat rock, you could take those glass blocks out along with that plastic island so your turt will have a LOT more room to swim. hell thank you for that. the turtle dock works with any depth of water.
and hell learn to love his baskin area a lot more than that one side heat rock.

just letting you know what i thought, but like i said, it is a great improvement from what ya started with!
