A better photo of your lighting setup would be helpful, but it doesn't look too bad! I'd add as much water as you can without covering the basking rock, and eventually it'll probably be worthwhile to invest in either a zoomed floating dock or one of the plexiglass ones, if only because it will let you vary the water level and take up less swimming room in the tank. What size tank is it? It looks a little small for your turt, but filling it up more will help. Do you have a uvb light as well as a basking light?

Ive got a uvb and a heat bulb for basking. I bot 2 dome lights and made a wooden light ficture to hold it all together. I am working on an above tank basking area. It will probably be installed when i clean out the tank. So ill raise the water level to the vary top of the aquarium. Thanks for the help and i will try to give some more pixs.

Your turtle looks good as far as I can see. Very pretty. I take it she's a female?

I agree with Starchick - you can put several more inches of water in there and give her more swimming room. Also, you can take those big rocks out that make up her basking platform and substitute some sort of dock that won't take up swimming space. The rocks take up too much room.

What's your tank size and turtle size? If you can provide a pic of the lights that would be helpful.

Is that a 10gal tank? You should get something bigger for your turtle since he looks like he's too big for it. A general rule of thumb is 10gal per inch of turtle, which can get very expensive for a glass aquarium. But you can get a 50gal rubbermaid tub for like $15 and they make a decent setup for a mid-sized RES.

I'm not sure but are the outlets by the water a hazard?

I agree with the above posts. If you're limited to that tank, then you need to be creative in maximizing the amount of swimming space. Removing those bricks and a better basking area would be a start. Fake plants are not a bad idea for decoration.

It's really impossible to accurately guess water temperatures, so I would also get a thermometer (they only cost about $2). A water heater is a must, unless you're living in a very warm area, and they are not expensive either.

And for a filter, look into an AquaClear or another hang-on-tank filter. These filters basically hang on the outside of the tank and are cheaper than a canister filter.

Thats just a pump and not a filter. Basically just pushes water around for circulation.

I just recently bought a thermometer with a in-water probe.
I cant believe how WARM my water was until I installed it.
 shamefully, at the peak of the day it gets up to 90 deg.
There were times when my turts would strap on to the heater, so
I just assumed it was too cold for them. Thermometers a must!!!

Peace :D
