Just curious, but what's the temp of the water and basking area, how far away is that UVB (?) light from the turtle when he's basking, and is there any plastic covering over it?

Some greenery would give him privacy and a place to rest. Make sure any plastic plant you buy doesn't have wires it (or take them out--they'll rust in the water).

The only heaters I've seen at the Walmart near me are very small--only 25 watts. You want a 50 or a 75 watt heater for the 10-gallon (if you get a 100-watt one you can use it if you upgrade to a 20-gallon).

Is the UVB light supposed to be a certain length away from the basking? It had a plastic cover thing, but I took it off.

I'll check out the heaters at Wal-Mart. I don't know what to do if I can't find one for his tank, other than keep the heat lamp on. But I don't really like doing that over night.

I plan on buying him some real plants, so maybe he can nibble on them too. :)

Walmarts does sell heaters, so you should be able to find some.

Try not to get a heater that's pre-set--you want a submersible one with a thermostat that's adjustable in case for some reason you have to raise or lower the temp. Wal-mart's heater are small (25-watts), at least at the Wal-mart near me (you want a 50-watt or a 100-watt one).

Marisa, I think we like to talk about water heaters. Thanks for the help again.

Maybe some newbie like me will find one of our threads on here about water heaters...

Here are some better pictures of Sid. He likes to hide out behind the filter. He even sleeps back here, vertical.

It's hard to get good pictures. He likes to chase his pellets back there.

Very nice lookin setup.

Just as a side note, I go to MSU, and I know at the end of the year people sell aquariums cheap as could be, so when you finish up next year, and Sid is getting bigger, you might want to watch for some people selling aqauriums super cheap, even other turtle owners that might be selling their old setups. I know I just got a 75gallon with a 4' fixture and screen top for $150 and its all only like 5months old... a 75gallon tank alone usually costs close to $200. Just something to keep in mind :D
