Silly me I just saw the other post while I was searching around. The water level looks nice now. And once you think he is used to it all you can raise it higher.

Yeah, I leave my lights on from 7 am to about 10 or 11pm. Well now I have my lights on a timer this way I don't have to do it myself. And also this way there is consistencey like the sun. Since some days you might not wake up earlier or you might just forget. And I would leave him in the water.

Every night since I've had my turtle I've clicked off the light. Eventually he swims over to the fake plant area if he's not there already, finds a nice spot, and just chills until he goes to sleep. And I've heard that turtles can see just fine in the dark (and as a side note, think of their natural environment -- there are no lights on at night in the natural world, for the most part).

I always make sure the temperature is right, though, and in fact I cover a bit of the top of the aquarium up with a towel just to make sure the humidity/heat stays in there (it sometimes gets cold and dry here, so it's just in case).

okay welll i was planning on getting a timer because i am finding my mother turning off the lights before i get home some nights!
and i usually turn the lights on around 9 and turn them off at 10

but i just wanted to make sure that when i turned the lights off he could see and not find himself without any air and not being able to see where the air is!

haha i twas so funnt today, nimrod discovered the filter, and he discovered that it pushed out water and causes a .. uhm. "current" and he loved it!
and pushed himself into it, and when it got too weak to carry him, he swam over to the filter and got himself back into the current! then it was feeding time and that was just done with =p

thanks for your help!

doesnt the heater keep its temperature?!
ohwow!
well i will most definatly put a towel or something over it!
but one of my lamps has a "moon mode" i guess you could call it, it still gived off heat, and kind of a moon-like glow.

but yeah, most defiantly i think if the water is going to get colder i will put a towel over it!

thanks!

Well, the heater keeps the temperature of the water just fine. It's just that I'm a bit paranoid, you know. ;) It's not really necessary.

Yes, you are supposed to turn off the lights at night. They should be on a 12 hour on, 12 hour off schedule. And no, you are not supposed to take him out of the water. RES can sleep underwater just fine.

edit: didn't see there was another page, this was already answered.
