The leash is around the midsection, and she dosen't seem to mind.
They don't treat the park with pesticides (But it's a dog free zone, but people walk their dogs there anyway)
There's a huge feild that is dedicated to basketball/ baseball, but isn't used most of the time. (It's HUGE! people don't pay much attention to it, though, because the playground part is more fun.)
And there's a small creek that Rose enjoys. The leash is so we can catch her when we need her to come out of the creek.
I bring a cloth to hold her in/ cover her face, so she dosen't feel stressed out when I carry her home.
I bring the cardboard carrying case she came in, so we can hide her if there's too many people, and we need to go home.

If you have anything to say, like how we can make the trips less stressful, tips, etc., please comment.
I have two baby RES; Emerald(Emmie or Rocky for short, plus she has green ears!) and Pretty. (Don't ask me about her name. My brother named her. He's only 6 1/2.)

Um
turtles aren't like dogs or mammels. They don't like change. I don't think your turtle would enjoy these trips...Remember, turtles are reptiles and anything that's different for them causes stress

I'm sorry, but thats a bad idea especially since you have hatchlings. The shells are still soft and you are putting pressure on it with that leash. I don't think it is acceptable in any way. If you want to give them less stress, give them a nice, big tank at home.

Yeah I agree with kevin and steve. Turtles may like our attention to a certain point (food) but realy, thats it. Your turtles are not enjoying their 'trips' to the park, and quite honestly I would stop it. It's way too much uneccesary stress on them, stress can make them ill..

A small creek? I wouldnt let your turtle swim around in a creek, do you know how easy it is to lose her? With or without a leash, it's not a good idea. Plus, who knows what nasty's hang around the creek.

Turtles are the look but dont touch type of pets.

I know you care about your turtles, and you want the best for them, but you have to realize that this is not the best for them.

Didn't you guys read my first few posts? My small turtle, Emmie, died of resporatory illness. Rose is a 4 inch turt with a hard shell.

That doesn't change my view. I think taking them outside on a lawn is fine, but a restraint like that is out of the question.

I second that. If you want rose to get some more swimming room, buy her a small kiddie pool and put her in your backyard for a couple of hours. But taking her to the park, putting her on a leash and letting her swim in a creek is not good.. :?

Turtles are turtles, their not dogs, their not cats, their turtles, they do not enjoy the park or having a leash wrapped around them. They are animals that prefer to be left alone. Rose is not a puppy.

Some of us do take our turtles out side for "walks" and I don't know if I would travel with mine, but if you don't have a back yard or front yard with grass I guess that could be an option. I don't use a leash at all but... I don't know much but I do think that if you are just holding the "leash" loosly and just following the turtle around and not pulling it or holding it up with the leash it doesn't sound that bad. You could make a simple and not so expensive leash out of panty hose. this way it just slips over the mid section of the shell, keep in mind you would only need about an inch of material around it then tie some on to it for the lenth of the leash you need. It is sort of like how I walk my ferrets. They have a harness and leash but they are not like dogs you can't pull them around and make them go some place. You have to let them do what they want to do and just follow. The only added thing is that if they are trying to go into the bushes or some place that is dangerous I can stop them and pick them up and redirect them. If they were not on a leash you would just have to be quicker then they are and hope they don't get into some place where you can't get to them.
Now with this I must say that it does sound like it might be stressful to have a giant following you around (from the turtles view) and that could be very bad for them. Also if you let them go in the creek you don't quite know what is in the water and if it is harmful.

That's my exact point, alexis. I let Rose go where ever she wants. (So long as it's safe).

There's fish in our park's lake, and it's naturally made. It has some snakes in it that keep the population of the fish from overpopulation, but they don't swim in the shallow waters. I only let Rose in the shallow water, but that's all. (And, no, Rose dosen't eat the fish, lol. )

Rose could get parasites...There's alwmost ALWAYS parasites in ponds like those.. Plus usually people litter things in large bodies of water.

Do what you like, but know that each trip is stressful for your turtle and will probably result in your turtle getting sick.

Yeah I agree with kevin. Yertle..point is,what you are doing is wrong, and you seem to ignore all the advice given. I dont think rose could get sick just by going to the park, but it overtime can get her sick, because of all the stress. People seem to 'think' that their turtles like something, but they realy dont know if they do or not, they cant show facial expressions, they cant speak..Turtles should be left alone, in their tank, and only handled every now and then, IMO.
