Ok we decided to go pick up our new mud turtle tonight cuz I was way too impatient to wait utnil after the guy got home from his holiday. He said that according to how she as incubated that she should be a SHE, time will tell.. I'll call her a her until I find out she's a he

It was about an hour away and we didn't get home till 10pm so I had to rig up an enclosure really quick (I should have done it in the afternoon but the tank was buried in the junk room and needed hubby to lift stuff - doh!) So the enclosure in the pics is temporary until tomorrow when I can get some plants and do a bit more research. I used the smaller of my two tanks (60x30x30 cm) because she's just sooooo tiny.

I named her Sydney, which is the name of my home town back in Canada I figure it's a nice neutral name which will work regardless of what her gender turns out to be

You know they only get up to 4 inches, maybe a little more at max? With a 40 gallon tank you'd be set Sweet turtle breigh.

I know, that's what I love about them that they stay so small. I have a 30 gallon tank waiting for when she gets a little older, at the moment she's in the smaller tank as she is seriously only the size of a beetle or something haha

Thanks all This morning I woke up and she was hanging out under a plant and was nice and alert. There was loads of tiny little footprints in the sand area so she'd been busy while I was asleep hehe

I redid her tank today adding a little more depth and more places for her to hide under. I don't have more plants yet as we haven't gotten to the pet store.

I used the cover from a DVD spindle as a stand for the basking area. I cut a big door in it so she can use it as a cave underneath the basking space.

I used a bit of the leftover background material that we used to make our above tank basking area in the other tank to make a ramp between the rocky shallow area and the basking area, which also serves as a nice cover for her to hide under.

It's 8cm deep in the deepest area, which comes up just under the edge of the sandy area so if she jumps off a side she can go straight into the water.

Does it look ok? The heater is buried under the rocks but I don't have a filter in there yet as I'm not sure how to get one to fit in such shallow water. I guess I just do regular water changes?

I wouldn't put the heater under the rocks. I had one in a feeder fish tank and it actually seemed to vibrate against the river rock and against the glass bottom.

She is a sweet little baby! I love the set up to. Here is an idea for a filter that you could use in the tank. I am unsure what's available where you are, but as your setups look great, I assume either you can get about anything.

I used a small fluval filter for Leo's first tank and it worked wonderfully, it was narrow so it could fit on it's side when I had the water shallow at first.
Your turtle is quite adorable! She really does look like a beetle
