Photo Gallery :: BIG upgrade 20 to 120 gallon!

We just upgraded our tiny 20 gal tank to a 120 gallon tank! Big sister wanted a turtle too. ANYway, here's a couple of pics.








We just bought this whole setup two days ago. Still needs some fine tuning I think. Anyway, has 2 Fluval 4Plus filters, one for each side and a Jager 150W heater. For now, we have a 'cinder' block resting on a small beta tank submerged for height. Also use a couple of fake coark basking props. The light is a UVA/UVB combo bulb. I think the water is a bit too deep but this is a temporary set up and we will keep working on something more practical and appealing, including wiping the little fingerprints off the glass! But it works for now.

Also, I am totally open to and would appreciate any suggestions, ideas or advice.

Maybe some fake plants in there would make it more comfortable for the turtle and maybe some rocks.

too deep? nah fill it as high as you can go without them jumping out.

Great tank! Lots of space too for adding some plants and river rocks too if you want to do some decorating. It would give the turtles something to fool with. Help them pass the time.

On the basking platform - that structure that's in there now takes up an awful lot of swimming room. Plus, I'd be very nervous about that cinder block on top becoming unbalanced and falling, perhaps hurting your turtle and for sure cracking the tank open. I see you also have a turtle dock - have you added the tower because the turtle dock is too small? Or did you just want to provide more basking area? If you want a bigger area for the turtles, you have several other options besides the tower - a larger size turtle dock, an acrylic turtle ramp, a custom made structure made with something like pvc, or a large sheet of cork bark. I've recently gotten cork bark and it was cheap and Spot likes it a lot. I see where you're planning to upgrade all that soon, which is probably good!

I like the tank size, but I think the cinder block would be too rough on the turts plastron. He might get injuries when he slides off it. Also it's taking up lots of space. Especially with that little tank in there too.

And those filters (even though there's two) aren't strong enough to filter that size of a tank, especially with a turt in there. They're great for smaller tanks, but not so much on the big ones.

From here, those little rocks on the bottom look kinda small, your turt might try and eat them, so I'd take them out.

Try adding some fake plants and a background to spruce it up a bit.

yeah im worried a bout the cinder block im just waiting to see the "so i broke my new tank thread" please move it it would be a shame for that to happen. and sweat upgrade i wish i hap the room for one right now

Hi all,

Thanks for all your replys. Don't worry about the cinder block. Even though the pics may not show, it's very stable and it's temporary.

Right now I have a very sick child and she's been my priority the last few days, but I promised her we'll get some new stuff to re-decorate and re-arrange the tank when she's well.

Then I'll take some more pictures!

Okay, cinder block is gone. Replaced with a Zoo Med Turtle dock, large size. WAAAAY lighter than the cinder block. They like it too.
Maybe later or tomorrow I'll get the plants in, and some river rock.

Okay,
Here are the very latest additions as of tonight... as small as they are. The plants are from my DH. I had to dig them out of an old barn, wipe off off all the spider webs and take them home to wash the heck outta them. Think I'll go back to Petco or wherever for some new ones but this stupid stuff is expensive!

Anyway, I'm using real river rock (live on the Sacramento River) and the plants are obviously fake so I'll probably get some new good ones next week. This is just one corner area I 'decorated' and so far, my original turt has shown quite a bit of interest. Already has nosying' around with the big rocks which will soon be in disarray, plants floating, etc.

Wonder what I'll wake up to?! Probably all floating plants and rocks all scattered. Oh well, at least they'll be entertained. Oh, also added a couple of sea shells for decor. If they get really yucky dirty, out they go!!
I also have a bristle nose plecostomas (sp?) who I call whiskers. And he's so far done a great job of cleaning the tanks. Old and new.

Anyway, here they are for now. I wish I could post without the pics being so dang LARGE.



If you're wondering why the water looks so green it's because the wall behind it it very green!

There's more to come soon but I'm only 5'4" and have a heck of a time getting anything 'arranged' at the bottom of the tank! I have to use a chair so it's not always easy. But soon I'll hopefully come to a happy arrangement for all of us.

We'll see what I wake up to! Oh, keep them suggestions coming!

hmm it looks VERY green, and I don't think its the wall..

Great upgrade for your turtle though

You have some small rocks in there that could be swallowed by your turtle,...you might want to take the small ones out since they're a hazard to your turtle's health

my tank is green too for some reason but i think it is from all of that anacharis i bought my turtles 2 weeks ago(which they finally finished)
