A woman holds a baby tortoise with two heads in Havana September 27, 2005. The tortoise was found some days ago on a river bank at the city forest. According to scientists of the local aquarium who inspected the animal, it seems to be perfectly healthy.

It's a conjoined twin, with just one body so scientifically, the turt has one stomach, one tail (unless internally is morphed also)
It's interesting that all twin turtles conjoin together. I haven't seen or heard any twin turtles thast hatched with two seperate bodies

Maybe I don't look much at other turtles, but it seems whenever I find an article on a 2 headed turtle it is a RES.

Anyone found another turtle with the same problem?

This one looks more like a cumberland slider to me. I've heard one case sometime ago about a cumberland two-headed

Last I checked it wasn't the head that determined the sex of a turtle..

I've thought over what you posted about twins and just wanted to know if my mind works strangely or different from everyone elses I've always looked at all turtles from one clutch like fraternal twins, and the two headed ones like conjoined twins. I guess I've just always thought they were "all" twins. Just not all conjoined. Ok, now tell me I'm weird.

They are octuplets .

I believe conjoined animals/people are always twins since they develop from the same embryo. I have never heard of identical twins (2 whole turtles or reptiles) to hatch. I have seen pictures where their shells are fused but I doubt they survive for very long.

I have seen a snake (sorry Carol) that seemingly hatched with two seperate bodies.. until they saw the tail, the tail were fused. It was pretty weird.

hahaha thanks TurtleSiren.. I was thinking about those too.. I've sort of .. kind of.. seen picutures of those 2 head snake thingies.. EWWWWW .. bad enough one flicking tongue let alone 2 of them. *cringe*
