Thanks!

Unfortunately he is sick right now

Wont eat
gasping for air sometimes
clear mucus around the mouth..

Vet said he is too little for antibiotics shots
I have been trying to dry-dock him as much as possible, is that a good idea?

Sorry, I should take these questions to the urgent care section..

Im just worried about him

You should try to bump the temps in the water up to 80-82 degrees, the basking area about 88-90 degrees, and if you are dry docking for some reason, you should make sure he stays warm and wet.

BTW VERY beautiful turtle, where'd ya get him?

We got this turtle from a very nice and knowledgable man who has a turtle farm in Missourri called Loggerhead Acres Turtle Farm.

The water temp is about 85-87 and the basking is about 90
I really hope he makes is....he just doesnt want to eat anything! Arg!

He is very beautiful! Did you just get him or have you had him for a while?

If he is gasping for breath, he has pneumonia & he will die slowly from it. I am not trying to be cruel when I say this, I just want to let you know so that you can get help. And FYI: he is NOT too small for antibiotic shots. The shots can be given to him in the soft area above his front arm (shots should not be given in the back leg area because it is too close to the kidneys).

If that vet won't help you, find one who can. Good luck & keep us posted!

I agree with Industrial_Girl_2000! My first RES had pnuemonia and the vet gave him a shot and sent me home with 8 more! He was only 6 grams. She said the dosing was tricky but it can be done!

I seek a second opinion. There is a list of vets in the urgent care section, take a look for someone else.

Industrial_girl- We have had him only two weeks or so.....the man we got him from did tell us it might be pnemonia and that we should prepare to lose him, but I refuse to give up! He is so beautiful I just want him to live

I am going to go and research other vets in the area...he is about 2 in big
Thank you for your advice....I will keep you posted

If the man you purchased him from told you that, then he ought to at least be prepared to replace him if he doesn't make it. If I'm not mistaken, this site is not a reputable site, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that weblink disappear as well.

I've never heard of a Pastel RES before. How does that happen? Is it common? He's very beautiful. I hope that he recovers. I would take him to a new vet.

Or speak to the breader would be my next suggestion. Find out what he would reccomend. At the very least, your water temp should come down to like 82, and i'd cover 1/2 the tank to allow for higher air temps in the tank.

Missibsu- I think you may be mistaking this man for another man who also calls himself turtlman and works for turtlesale [not reputable].com which is not reputable.

This man seemed very dedicated to the care of his turtles.
He let us know in the beginning that he would help us in replacement (I hope it doesnt come to that  )

A pastel is any red ear with light coloring, usually from recesive genes, which unfortunately can make them suseptiable to a lot of things

I'm just wondering why this turtle had pneumonia before you got him. What was the living condition like at the seller's place? Not necessarily blaming the seller, but it sounds like he was well aware of the RI before you got the turtle from him. Makes me wonder how healthy the rest of his turtles are since RI is contagious.
