awwww! your turtle is adorable, and he appears to be quite fond of the paparazzi! a question though, where did you get those nifty suction cup clips holding down his veggies and his cuttlebone? maybe that would keep larry from trying to stuff it straight into the filter...

your bird is beautiful too.
awesome! righteous! bodacious! i have always liked...cowabunga

Hey, just a suggestion for you! I have that same thermometer, and I found that it wasn't that great for measuring the basking area. Possibly because the probe is black? I have this super-accurate old fashioned mercury thermometer, and for air or water temperature, the two are the same, but under the basking light, the digital reads 15-20 degrees hotter than the other. If Turtley is basking fine you probably don't need to worry about it, but it's something to keep in mind!

marsspyder- thanks for the compliments, he does love the paparazzi (either that or he's hoping for a pellet!) I got one of the clips at Petsmart and one online at Drs. Foster and Smith, they're cheap and they work great! Turtley's not big on eating his veggies, and if they're just floating around he pays no attention to them.
Starchick- thanks for the tip on the thermometer, i'm gonna get the old fashioned kind today or tomorrow to make sure his basking area is actually as warm as i think it is. I had kinda thought that because it was black it might read hotter than it was, but i never gave it a lot of thought.

Those are great pics. In that first one Turtley looks like he's in free fall. And Lilly is a beauty!

what size tank is that? and what size dock do you have? I am looking into getting that dock, and I want to see how much space it takes up thanks.

Octpusgirl8, I have to ask - does your name mean you also have a pet octopus?

Hoooneylynn- The tank is a 40 gal "breeder tank" so it's wider (or i guess deeper would be the right word for it) and less tall than a regular 40 gal tank. I have the large size ramp in there. He loves it!

SpotsMama- Someday when i am out of college and have my own place (and enough money!) i am totally getting an octopus. As for now i just admire them from afar and draw them a lot. They need a pretty big saltwater setup and besides being more than i can afford right now i wouldnt want to have to deal with moving it. I plan on getting Turtley a nice big tank then too (although if i happened to find one for cheap i would get it sooner).

Octpusgirl8, that is sooo cool that you're going to get an octopus some day! I agree they are fascinating. Squids too. If you're still on the forum when you reach your goal I hope you'll post some pictures.

As long as i have my turtle i will still be on this forum, i'm just sorry i didn't find it sooner, there is sooo much great info ad advice here, as well as friendly people! It's so nice to have a place to talk about the silly nuances of turtle behavior and care without feeling like a big dork! Turtley's life has improved sooo much sice i found this site, not that i wasn't taking good care of him before, but there was so much i didn't know (there is so much misinformation out there about RES) His only complaint is now he only gets his beloved pellets every other day and i make him eat his vegetables. But he'll thank me when he get older...lol!
