[color=darkred]i got savage and nimrod on tuesday { where i am at it is now saturday }
here is my set up
no i dont have a filter, but i clean it out every three days or so. i have two basking lamps because one wasnt providing adequate {spelling?} heat and my flourescent light goes over pretty much the whole tank





here is where my water heater is located. its only a 7.5 watt but i put it under the rocks so my turtles wouldnt "explore" it and hurt themselves. i just got this when i noticed savage wasnt eating, and wasnt swimming, and his eyes were a bit puffy.




this would be how small savage is, nimrod is also this small, but nimrod is very skiddish so it will be a while before i can take camparison pictures with him!





here is nimrod and savage basking, once again, this is a very rare picture! i had to crawl into my room just to get close enough to take this! and he had his feet all streatched out, but he was on the move when i took this picture! nimrod is the lighter one and savage is the darker one




here is what it normally looks like, nimrod on the bottom in the water and savage on the top basking area!

here are some pictures of nimrod! he likes it under the basking floaty thing, he gets light and protection at the same time! i had to turn the bottles and containers of my turtles stuff around because he would see the turtles on the labels and just stare at them for hours!









Here are pictures of my poor savage.
he is completely fine except for his eyes and his lack of movement. he isnt dead, i make sure of that everytime i walk in my room! i have eyedrops for him, once in the morning and once at night.
i put him in hot water every morning and it gets his body temp. pretty warm so he moves around a bit, i hope these eyedrops hurry up and work because he cant eat what he cant see and i dont want him to starve!










Any tips, pointers, or advice would be awesome and much appriciated!

One of my turtles, Lex behaved almost exactly the same way, after he died ( ) I thought that something had gotten into his water when i last changed it and thats what caused his almost constant basking, so it might be a good idea to check the ph of the water (tho since your other turtle is fine in it it might not be the problem). It also might be a good idea to put Savage in a seperate tank so that if he does have a disease he does not pass it on to the other turtle and also make sure he doesnt get too dry up there, good luck!

on monday i am going to take him into the reptile vet at my work { the humane society } so it wont cost me anything.

and i keep him wet with a misting every hour!

and i dont think its the PH because nimrod is constantly in the water and very active!

I would bet he has a respriatory infection. Taking him to the vet Monday is the best thing you could do for him! He probably needs antibiotics to help him get better. Try to keep the basking platform around 90 degrees, and the water at 82. I hope you have thermometers to measure these things, because it is essential for your little one's health. Definetely seperate the two turtles as one is fine, and the other is not. A tupperware container will suffice for a while if you don't have another tank to isolate him in. Keep the ill turtle in the tank that he has been in, as stress will be harder on him than on the well baby. Pouring the hot water on him is probably not a good idea as it is giving his system a shock, and suden temperature changes can be harmful for turtles. I fyou don't have thermometers for the basking platform and water, I would get those ASAP so you can moniter the temps to ensure they are optimal for the little one's recovery. The thermometer in the picture needs to be much closer to the basking area if that's the one you are using to gage it's temperature.

ohhh im not " pouring" water on him, i am lightly misting him with warm ish water! its out of a spray bottle, it was the only one i could find that had the lightest settings, i had to use that for my frog.
and i regularly check the water temp and the basking area temp {pretty much every three hours}, i dont use the thermometer in the picture, its not a thermometer, its a humidity thing, i used it also when i had my frog.

and in my original post, the water i put him in in the morning is not *hot* its just luke warm, i read somewhere that bringing their body temp. up is good for them when they are sick

but if you think that it would be best for me to not do this, { the misting and the luke warm water bath } then i wont do it=] afterall, i am not the most experienced turtle owner =p

You should get a better heater. I have that exact same one and it doesn't work in aquariums.

I see 2 basking lights. Invest in a digital thermometer and check the basking area temp. they are pretty cheap, like 6 bucks. Is your fluorescent a UVB? If so, it may be too close, it's what caused my guys eyes to swell shut. Try turning it off for a few days and see if he improves.....

yeah i have two basking lamps, but thats only becaues their wattages arent very high and dont give off enough heat that is needed. and my room doesnt get much light so if i turn off the flourescent light will it get to be too dark for my other turtle?

and it is made for aquariums!
how would it not work?!
well so far its just improving my water a little bit, there wasnt a dramatic change, but that was not what i was looking for, so for now im sure it will be just fine

Sorry I misunderstood! Misting with luke warm water is fine. It was the word hot that set off my internal alarm bells. The extra basking in the 90 degree heat should bring up his temperature. The misting should be good for helping him stay hydrated.

haha its okay. dont be sorry. i shouldnt have typed hot!
he is also getting eyedrops
but he is sort of..
moving a little now and then, but when he does he opens his mouth and streatches out his head.
tomorrow i will keep a close eye on him like i did today and then on monday i will take him to the vet at my work and hopefully reveive good news!

my res was like that. it might be RI, but it might be the UVB light that is toasting his eyeballs. he should be fine in a few weeks.

uhm, thanks all your help guys/girls but last night savage either went down to the water to die, or he just started to move and didnt know where he was going because this morning when i woke up to turn the lamps on, i found him in the water. just floating there... so i picked him up to see if he was alive, and he wasnt =[
