Serra doesn't show any interest in the fish...I doubt she'll ever eat one since they're too fast for her hehe

Hey Kevin, I have a cool room under my sunroom that gets down into the 40's to 50's during the middle of winter and it has no windows. So as fall approaches I leave my VFT outside until the temps approach the low 50's. Then I clip off any of the dead/dying leaves and move it down to the cool room for the winter. I place the pot in a tray filled with about 1/2" of water and just lightly mist it once a week to keep the soil moist. Then in late winter I bring it back up to the sunroom and put it in a shaded area on the floor where it's a little cooler and gradually let it "wake up".

This is the first hibernation that it's been through and it's starting to grow its new summer leaves. I have it out on the deck now and it's already put up a nice flower stalk which should be blooming pretty soon. It also caught 2 daddy longleg spiders. It was actually pretty creepy cause the spider bodies were totally encased in the traps but their legs were still sticking out and moving a little.

I'll have to get some pics and post them soon. :)

Oh you shouldn't let it flower because it saps a LOT of energy from the plant and if something happens it might die.

You know you can get more baby VFTs when you pull off a leaf at the bulb ( white fleshy part) and place it under wet spaghnum it'll sprout out baby VFTS in a couple of weeks.

Here's a VERY informative and quite funny web about them. http://www.sarracenia.com/faq/faq2000.html

Hmm, that makes sense. So do you bury the whole leaf under the sphagnum to get the babies? I'll have to give that a try.

Hey I know that site! They have some really cool information on there too. I prefer to order from Black Jungle though cause it's much closer so the plants don't have to travel too much. I may try to make a day trip to visit them sometime too. They always have a really big booth at our local reptile show too which is great. :D

Well whe u pull it off u break it off at the very base, so you get a bit of the white fleshy part. then you just stick only the white fleshy part under the spaghnum.

I just posted some pics of my plants in a new thread. There's already a new clump forming off of the parent plant. :D I also just realized that I haven't seen that sarracenia site before. It looks really cool, thanks for the link! :)

Oh here's a picture of a couple of air plants I got for my wife. I still have to glue them to the piece of wood...

Oh woww...

Mine's a different species, sorta looks like both of yours combined. Mine is Tillandsia recurvifolia

Mine isnt glued onto a piece of wood, its just jammed into a little notch in the wood hehe...that way its easier to give it baths.

How do you water yours? I submerge them in slightly fertilized water over night once a week and its growing.

I think (in your picture) the left one is Tillandsia caput-madusae
and the right one is Tillandsia ionantha var. stricta

I just spray them with reverse osmosis filtered water a couple of times a week. I don't remember what species they were and it's kind of hard to tell the different types apart so I never bothered. :?
