Just for your son, I wish I can approve getting a sulcata, but it's too much work, especially if you are keeping him permanetly. Some people get a tiny sulcata and figure "when he gets older, I give him to the zoo" which likely doesn't happen
But like I say, your choices are still out there. Hermann's, greeks, leopard, indian stars (such a beauty may I say) eyptians, they all stay in a smaller range in size.

Don't get me wrong, if you do have the required space, the time, effot and the temperature is suitable (as the sulcata gets bigger (and I mean BIG) you may want a pen outside for him) why not get the sulcata? I'm just not familiar with where you are at so I don't really know
