When I see those little babies I want to get one to keep my other turtle company... but I have been advised that they may not be the safest thing for the baby turtle.

But a second opinion couldn't hurt. She is a three year old female... 8 inches long. Do you think she would attack the baby turtle?

For the record are you selling them or just giving them to parents who can give them a suitable home?
THANKS!

JELslider - your baby is so beautiful, I can tell you right now that she doesn't need company. It honestly would not be very safe for the little one (I have gone thru this already with Sheba and a previous turt that I had, Nelson). You would need a separate set up for the baby, unfortunately.

The only friend your Cortez needs is YOU! :)

I have 1 adult about 7 inches and I had 2 hatchlings with her. My adult turtle has no beef with one hatchling (which is 3 ½ inches long now), but doesn't care about the other. Last week, I thought my adult turtle was killing this hatchling, so I had to seperate them. The hatchling's leg was in the adult's mouth. I was like....."OH MY GOSH!!!" The hatchling is now in another tank. He's doing better now. He's eating swimming...basking.

I guess turtles are like people. There some people we like and there's people we don't like. I don't know......turtles have intersting personalities.

Mybrosteve, that is an interesting pic of your turtle next to your profile. My turtles pose like that, too. It's interesting that turtles do Yoga, too!! Lol

Are both hatchlings separated from the adult RES? It's better to keep turtles of the same size together even if there are no apparent problems.

No.....just Beltran....the smaller hatchling. Delgada and Shea (adult turtle) are in the same tank. They get along pretty well. Sometimes, Delgada is on Shea's back and Shea doesn't seem to mind.

It's safer to keep the smaller ones away from the larger one. They could still get hurt unintentionally (I've seen this a few times).

well, george and i live around philadelphia, so if youre anywhere near there you can adopt one from either of us. if you dont however, id keep and eye on the forum, see if anybody in your area has any babies up for adoption. other than that, maybe a reptile rescue? im sure Steve can answer that part better than I can.

Mybrosteve, I just sent George a note, but I would like to help you guys out by adopting one of these rescued babies. I could come out there next weekend (Jan13) if you guys will be around. Fortunately for us here at work, we have MLK day off on Monday so the drive won't be so bad. Also, it will give me a week to get a set up & carrying container for the baby.

Feel free to email me at industrial_girl_2000@yahoo.com & let me know if this is a convenient weekend for you guys. Also, I will need some help regarding a hotel in the area so I can stay overnight. Thanks!
