Just because someone says, oh if the turtle dies it's okay, we'll replace him doesn't mean he's a reputable dealer. Actually I wouldn't trust many people that sell Alligator Snappers for $60 and make sure to tell their customers false information.

Anyways, he's a very beautiful turtle, I hope he pulls through! Just like with humans, a second opinion is necessary. The vet you went to may not have been a herp vet and said that he or she can't give shots because they don't know what they're doing.

EDIT: The breeding of pastels is questionable, I've heard that incubation temperatures are altered etc...Really there aren't many reputable online breeders or local breeders of Red Ear Sliders. I mean, they're so hardy and can "survive" in terrible conditions much better than other turtles.

We have a vet appointment tomorrow for him

I hope he pulls through too. This turtle was actually born out in the wild in one of the ponds he has. He found it and couldnt believe how beautiful it was and was kind enough to let us get him. He is a "natural' pastel is you want to call it that. Before we got him he was eating well and he ate well for a couple days when we got him but now he has slowed his eating so its time for the vet

Thank you everyone, for you concern

Pastels have been spotted in the wild....very rare. I think maybe they don't hatch on schedule, so it's warmer when they do emerge. It's also my understanding they are not as hardy as normal RES.
Good luck with him, he is beautiful...

Hi everyone...

Just wanted to update you and let you know Camino is eating!!

He has eaten more in the last two days then he had in the past two weeks before the antibiotics

less mucus, no longer opening his mouth to breath, and eating

Hooray! :D

He's beautiful---How's he doing? Keep him warm and out of drafts/breezes.

I see my question has been answered. :) Glad to hear it. Since you know he's susceptible to certain conditions, he's going to need a bit of extra TLC.

He is definitely going to need some extra lovin'

He has his own ten gallon tank, heater, filter, UVB UVA, land bridge and digital thermometer. Our other turtles are jealous! :-0

Glad to hear the turtle's getting better. Since he's a baby, my vet (herp who owns RES and other turtles) suggested you have him see a herp vet at least every 6 months until he's about 3 inches. Especially if a pastel RES is more prone to illness like others have said. Preventive medicine is always cheaper than emergency care. :)

Besides, I'd like to see pictures of him when he (or she) is 4 inches.
My babies: Tanner (RES), MR. Prissy & Ringo (budgies), Shinju (cockatiel)
