You didn't come off mean. I think those Betta bowls are too small as well.

don't worry, there's nothing in the tiny bowl guys, sheesh!

It's just a transport bowl when I clean. Fishies go from one tank to another while I vacuum.

and believe me she has PLENTY of swimming room on other side of the "obstruction"

This may look cute to some of you but if that turtle had fallen off and on to a hard floor, he or she could have easily cracked it's shell (which you couldn't nescessarily see) and die a slow death. :(

Yeah, i didnt realy think of it like that - the poor thing could have easily scrambled off as soon as the person came into the room and fallen..But thankfully that didnt happen, so lets be happy because of that. Realy be more carefull next time.

Thank you Keenuh for posting this photo. It really demonstrates how turtles can escape from anything given the slightest chance. You wouldn't think from looking that she could climb out but.....there it is! She did!

actually, the reason she came into my possession is because she fell from at least the first story of a building. She came to the hospital I was working in, because someone found her on the sidewalk after she fell. After nobody claimed her I adopted her. But she had a small 1inch crack in her shell from falling from at least a one story. She has recovered nicely physically, but it obviously did not cure her escape craving. Turtles have VERY srong shells, and fall the distance of the top of the aquarium (which is on the floor) would not kill her.

but it would startle her and could injure her extremities. Which is why I posted the picture so everyone could see this possibility.

I finally put the screen above her tank now. Don't worry everyone, she is safe from my negligence now.

Wow, that's amazing that she had survived a fall like that. Nice rescue! :)

What an amazing rescue! Since turtles don't necessarily learn from experience, it's a good thing they have strong shells!

Or maybe they developed strong shells because they don't learn from experience, hehe.

I left the screen off for a couple of hours the other day, LO and Behold, I found her hiding behind the aquarium. And my was she upset when I found her. I stole her sweet freedom from her.
