The fact that you are providing agitation to the water will prevent any female mosquitoes from trying to lay their eggs there. They will not try to lay eggs in moving water, even slightly moving water. Mosquitoes like standing and very quiet water that has some nutrients in it.
Stagnant water will go bad, just like milk, only not as quickly. Once the bacteria builds up, "momma mosquito" somehow knows this is a good spot for her babies. Some like brackish water (Oc. sollicitans), some like fresh floodwater (Ae. vexans, Ps columbaie, Ps. ferox) some like relatively clean container water (Ae. albopictus) and some like absolutely filthy stinking container water, like catch basins, sewers, and water treatment plants (Cx. pipiens). There is one mosquito that can lay it eggs in slightly moving streams, An. walkeri, I think, but I don't think it's found in your area......
As far as the dunks go, the fish will probably just eat them. Not to worry, BTI is harmless to aquatics, plus with that amount of fish in there, there's no way the larvae can survive.

that's a relief. It's been raining like somebody forgot to turn off the faucet around here so there are mosquitoes in the area. I don't think we're seeing many in our yard, though, so was hoping our pond isn't an offender. The fountain keeps all the water in the pond moving to some extent, and actually makes waves in about half of it. And those fish must be eating something - I only feed them once in a while. Of course, there are a lot fewer baby fish now than there were. Wonder what happened to them???

LOL. Big fish eating little fish would be my guess. Unless Spot is in there. Then it's every fish for himself!!! :D

This is one of the most densely populated areas in the country and sadly, the marshes and lowlands are slowly disappearing.....giving way to million dollar homes and shopping malls. But I guess it's happening in alot of places around the country. :(

It's happening everywhere. Urban sprawl is really depressing.

Well humans can't destroy Earth. We don't have the equipment to do so. But what we CAN do,ahem what we ARE doing is destroying most of Earths population. Then the survivors would become to new dominant species. Killer cockroaches...

I'm old enough to remember driving on ANY highway in N.J. and never having to touch my brakes. When N.J. was known as the "Garden State".

Now I drive a total of 12 miles (door to door) from home to work and it takes me a minimum of 45 minutes.......That's if I don't get killed by some insane driver who thinks he's "special" by cutting people off or driving on the shoulder or...well you know what I mean.

I can't recall the name, but there was a documentary a few years back that equates the human race as the "super weed" that just envelopes everything and can only die when it runs out of hosts.

There was also a a very recent quote, I can't recall who said it, some scientist I think, who said:
"We no longer drive the technology, it drives us."

Pretty scary, huh?

yup
There's been mass extinctions all along timeline.

Perhaps we are to cause the next mass extinction? Too bad it won't be named since we'll all be dead...=(
