The basking area is a cinderblock..It works as a hiding spot too as i have see them go under through the hole.It originally was going to be a piece of log,but it floats and they were going to have a hard time reaching it.They spent the night outside too.

I hope they will be incline to bask now, although i dont know how..Hope they do though, cause they've been missing out a lot.

Do you have any protection for the pool at night? I'd be worried that raccoons could get to the turtles or some other night creature. Also, cinderblocks are pretty abrasive on turtle shells so you'll want to keep an eye on that and if the shells start getting damaged you can switch to a different material .

How beautiful! How on earth did you get those arial photos?

Do they have shade from the sun in the heat of the day? From experience around here - and I'm in Texas which is a very hot part of the US - the water will heat up without good shade and even the space inside the cinder block won't stay cool (I used a cinder block for awhile too and my turtle really enjoyed it.)

Its pretty hot here too.
Well in the evening, they start to get more shade..Since its close to section of the house and thats gives them some shade( i hope i explain that right).

Mexicali,Mexico...The closest thing we have to raccons are rats lol,and those dont come very often..plus my dog catches them everytime.

Here are some more pics, they were having a little difficulty to climb up,so i put the turtle dock over it,not a bad idea huh?.I dont like to get close when they are basking, since they get spooked and run back to the water.

Yep haha, they are going to be in strike when i take them back inside lol.

I just bougth the cuttlebone.
And since im here i have a quick question, the hard backing part you guys talk about is the one you can dig with your finger nails, right?cause i try to do the same to the other side but it felt more harder,i have to peel off that side, right?.

I give my turtles pieces from the softer side. I think the hard side might be too sharp and could hurt their insides so i throw that part out.

I know i'm gonna feel stupid asking this, but what is cuttlebone, and what does it do?
I have two baby RES; Emerald(Emmie or Rocky for short, plus she has green ears!) and Pretty. (Don't ask me about her name. My brother named her. He's only 6 1/2.)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuttlebone

If you use the search function you'll find plenty of information, but its basically it comes from a cuttlefish, a mollusc..Its use in birds for their beaks. And it works as a source of calcium for turtles.

I just gave mine a few pieces and they loved it i guess, since they began to consume it...But to remove the beaking part is a pain in the cloaca lol.

Well im going to edit my post and leave the drama aside..ha.
I have a quck question.

I have to put them in a higher place, cause of my dog was beginning to stalk them..Well they are now in a glass table..I have to remove the cinder block cause of the weight and put a piece of firewood instead..Since there is a tree it gives them a lot of shade, would that maybe not want them to bask?. :?
