Photo Gallery :: Turtlets' Pond update, Southern California

My four turtlets of 2.5 years have been staying at our backyard pond in San Bernardino county, CA the past two months and they've been doing really, really well. They seem really happy and healthy there. It's about 300-400 gallons and with an efficient filter my parents provided (do not have the exact model on hand). I was first concerned for the 15-20 small goldfish and two small algae catfish being eaten but they've all actually been really good with each other. There's a blue floating life raft for shade 24 hours.

Unfortunately, I do not have a recent picture and only have one from when the pond was first built (I posted several months ago) in February and when I first put the turtlets in July. The pond looks drastically different from the pictures and a healthy thin layer of algae for the animals. Hopefully I get to post an updated picture. I was waiting for when the turtlets get less shy when people are around because they still "plop" to the water so I cannot get a good shot of them. Otherwise, I would've loved to give you guys an updated picture sooner! But, it's really really cute cause everyday they are always basking in the morning for sun!!

I'm not sure if anyone watched MTV2's episode of Andy Milonakis Show with Hilary Duff when she played a turtle's controlling and impatient cute girlfriend. I'm a huge fan of her and turtles so I loved it. I actually met her this summer and told her we named one of our pet turtles after her because of the show and she laughed out loud! wow that's a cool pond! are you planning to put plants in it? Do all 4 of them get along?

I want to. It actually looks really nice the way it is and the whole backyard is well landscaped but who knows. My parents like to take care of the turtles now too!

Oh and I just looked over the picture again, Aren't you worried they might climb out throw the rocks? They are very good at climbing. And do you have a basking spot for them?

Actually, we do have a wall of bricks towards the right side where they would've escape so they definitely won't now. They actually have a LOT of basking area and have a particular favorite part towards the bottom of the bricks they all could fit at.

Wow that is a gorgeous pond! I love the rockwork and the waterfall! Did your dad build it? I'm just curious 'cause my dad used to do all kinds of landscaping and gardening around our yard for as long as I could remember. Anyway, very nice pond and your turtles look great!

Thanks for all the wonderful comments!! All of the animals are very happy and healthy, more than I'd imagine, so I'm so happy and excited seeing them everyday!

My parents hired a group of workers to do it but my parents mainly maintain it because they like to landscape our backyard. I used to take care of the turtles myself when we kept it in an aquarium in our house (cleaning the filter, etc.) but they were getting too big for it. Now, my dad is the one to do a lot of the maintenance. It's kinda sweet because before my parents thought the turtles were more of a hassle but now they grew to like them!
