I need to think of some good names for them, my 4 year old daughter thinks their names should be paws and claws

Oh, so nice. :D Does the one in the top pic have some orange on her carapace? I saw some RES this weekend that did as well.

Your daughter is very clever. But if they're both female, claws doesn't really fit, does it?

Is the piece actually missing or is it just a space between the two scutes (if it's the latter, my RES has a gap as well). If it's missing, is there any sign of infection/rot, etc.?

They look good. And very healthy like you said from a previous post. :)

If you need help thinking of names here's a site I absolutely adore: http://www.babynamesworld.com/

I know it's not pet names, but it has some really cool names from other languages. Celtic names have to be my favorite. There's no telling what my kids would have been named if I would have had this site back then.

I think it is just a space but who knows if it happened before they came to me. You can see it in the 5th picture.

Some really good looking turtles.. :)

Now what I want to know.. is how the heck do you get these turtles that are new to you to just sit in your hand like that!!!??? I've had mine for a year.. from hatchlings and they freak out when I pick them up... are you a turtle whisperer or something

If it's a gap, Stacey, I wouldn't worry about it. Just out of curiosity, how many verterbral scutes does the turtle have? More than 5?

Marisa- there are 5 verterbral scutes, and I'm thinking, after close observation, that it is just the way the shell grew.

Carol- the larger one is very friendly and just sat there enjoying the attention, but the smaller one was fighting like you wouldn't believe. So no turtle whisperer(darn   )
