Decided to make our own landing dock since the ones at Pet Smart were not boyant enough for our 3 turts.





Mr. Turtle and Deep-Green on their brand new landing dock.
They can finally bask without dipping in the water!

Looks interesting, what kind of wood are you using there? Can we see what the ramp looks like?

Well, at the time the pictures were taken the tank was kind of dirty so once I clean it I'll get some better pictures. I used wodden dowels purchased at Walmart and simply nailed them together.

It almost looked like bamboo reeds. That would have looked kind of tropical.

They do, however not without the help of some really boyant styrofoam.

next time i go to walmart (WHY IS IT WHENEVER I DONT NEED TO GO SOMEWHERE, WE DO, AND WHEN I DO, WE DONT!!!!!) i'll get some, all from the craft section?

They do, however not without the help of some really boyant styrofoam.

Is the styrofoam where the turtle can reach/see it? If so, they may eat it and become sick from it. There was a post on here a little while ago about a turtle getting sick from eating the styrofoam that was around a plant made to go into the aquarium.

Just a word of caution if your turtle can reach it, if not then don't worry.

i'm going to put my dowel rods all around it, or mabey i'll use more dowel rods to put it to the top (like the pvc pipes)

I am really not sure of the life expctancy of this landing dock. I belive if you get special nails then they won't rust. However, the nails could possibly crack the dowels if the dowels become to frail.


I guess turtles eating the styrofoam could be a problem so maybe I could try to cover up the styrofoam with more dowels.

You could try to glue them with aquarium silicone, or even bind them together with something like fishline.

I was originally thinking of using fishline but felt that nailing it would be easier.

Styrofoam is something I would definitely keep out of the tank. If the nails are metal, they will rust (do they make stainless steel nails?), plus I would hate to see a RES try to eat one. Fishline or some thread sounds like a good idea... there are a few options to try out.
