Hi Guys!

Long time reader/follower of this website! Just wanted to share a picture of my tank it is a bit odd btw.

Specs

33 Gallon
Length - 48.5in [4Ft]
Height - 12.5in
Width - 13.5in

I'm well aware of the shell length rule but I had bought the turtles long before I was made aware of this. This is the Biggest tank I could get because of dimension and weight restrictions. I look forward to building them an above ground pond in the future.

The Tank itself is weird in that it has the same footprint of a much larger tank (aka the length of a 75 gallon) BUT its short!

This tank was custom made so I could maximize the actual swimming space of the turtles and at the same time avoid breaking the 300lb mark of Turtle Tanks. Got the idea from it by seeing this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGMiEf2Ieqc [I think mine is actually a bit bigger]

Just wanted to express my thanks for all the great info this site has provided me over the years!

That's a pretty neat tank. What filter are you using?

I was very worried about the weight because the tank isn't on a stand made for the weight of aquariums. Im also on the 2nd floor in a small room and I didn't want to place 500lbs of aquarium madness in here not knowing where the wooden beams in the floor are.

I figure mine is pushing 250+ in water weight alone not counting rocks, decor and the tank itself. Im probably well over 300 come to think of it -__-

Filter is just a regular Tetra ex 70

FYI Those size shallow long tanks are called lagoon tanks. They are becoming very popular in the reef hobby for use with SPS coral. SPS coral needs TON of light. Never complain about your turtle's lighting to a reef guy with an SPS setup. It's not uncommon to spend several thousand dollars on lighting. Anyway, the long shallow tanks allow for light penetration to the bottom of the tank, thus easing some of the lighting requirements and possibly avoiding the very hot very expensive metal halide lighting. The long tank allows swim room for reef friendly fish like tangs who like to swim vertical laps of the tank.

I'm looking at these on glasscages.com and I was wondering the same thing...do we get to cheat on the number of gallons if its 6 ft long?? The 135 gal is MUCH cheaper than the 180 (I have 17 inches of shell)

I would prefer a wider tank than taller, especially if you have females. However a 135 gallon should be fine if your RES are friendly with each other. The 10"-1 gallon "rule" is merely a guideline for individual RES.

The one I am looking at is only 2 feet tall. That makes me feel a lot better... thanks for clearing that up! If anyone fusses at me on here, I will say "Steve said it is OK!" haha! And yeah, my girls get along great. They follow each other around...They love to bask together!

A Fluval FX5 filter would be a good match for that 155G tank.
