So Shadow is now 3.6 inches , after 6 months of being with me, and another 4+ months with his previous owner :D
I was just curious, is shadow really a female, of is he a male? And when do males claws start to get long?
Heres his claw pics, their not that clear, as i am using an ordinary digital camera

And heres one of his/her tail

Although its ok f i had a female, but i'm really hoping its a male XD

From the angle of that last picture with the tail it looks female. Since the turtle is not 4 inch shell length there is still a chance it's tail will drop. Could also be the angle of the picture.

I agree with Jaysea, but those claws look pretty long, almost longer then my 7" Female's. But the tail looks like it may be female.

Yeah the tail seems like a female, but the claws are longer than a female of the same size, and i mean really longer. Thats why i think he might be a male. Btw, when do the obvious signs usually appear?
My neighbours turtle is only 2.8 inches big, and its claws are really long, and so is its tail.
Or maybe mine is just a later bloomer :P

Well, i was getting impatient waiting for him to turn 4 inches before being able to tell his gender, so i call up his previous owner.
Turns out, the batch of egg he(my turtle) came from were all males o.O is that possible? Oh and his previous owner claims that he bought him from a breeder that set the incubating temp. in a way so that the batch of egg would all be males????
Oh and a few minutes ago i managed to that a front view shot of my turtle Shadow :)

Yep his nails are long, tail hasn't dropped yet tho. Like i said earlier it's tail could still drop since it's not 4" yet.

I'm gonna say male those front claws look long. And also to answer your question, yes a batch of eggs incubated in certian temp ranges can produce certain gender batches. I can't remember but I think the high temp range produces males and low range produces female and in the middle is a combo of both genders:)

Having doubts as his tail doesn't seem to be as long as normal males, and his claw too.
Any idea when males start to have growth spurts???

Almost always before 4inches, usually around 3-3.5 they will look male. So im going with female.
