When I was setting up my XP3 I had all the other filters I own trying to clean my tank from a weeks worth of waste. Thought you guys might get a kick out of it.



Lets hope the XP3 alone can cut it> Also going to get snails this weekend and hope the turtles dont eat them.

Can there be too much filtration? LOL I think as long as the water current in the tank isn't overpowering for them, it should be okay. Eventually you may want to just go with the XP3 it really should be enough for a tank that size.

yeah after it's clean, just go with the XP3...that's all that's running on my 120...it's great.

why wait for the filters to clean out that water? why not just do a full water change and use the xp3 alone.

If you had more of a bottom base your water wouldn't get so cloudy! Alot of the waste would go to the bottom, thus keeping the water clearer. And when I say bottom, I mean gravel, rocks, sand etc!!! Need to make it more natural.

I assume no complete water change because you're starting out new with the XP3 and you don't want the tank to have to cycle? (I'd do a partial one.)

Using just the XP3 the tank looks much better now. Also got them a plant and some ghost shrimp to help with the mess. Its still a little cloudy any suggestions?

The tank below is what the previous owners had them in with 2" of small gravel rock and about 5" of water.

the setup looks good.. sometimes the water stays cloudy for awhile, it's normal
The one thing I'd suggest is a much larger basking area so they can both bask at the same time. and those poor babies being stuck in that tiny thing for so long.. good thing they found you ..

Is it me or does it look like the stand is about to collapse? The metal stand looks like it's really bent out of shape. I recommend you get another stand before you have about 30Gallons of water soaked into your carpet, a cracked glass tank, and two very vulnerable turtles. Or is it just me ?

Larger basking area is definately on the agenda, but $250 in two weeks on the critters already has been rought. I finally found a place with the large zoo med doc, might pick it up tommorow.

So looking at my murky tank I decided to do a full replace of the water remove most of the rock (just add a few for them to kick around). After emptying the tank I thought about letting it sit for an hour after puting the new water in so it could filter through it all. Then my redneck brain had a genuis idea. Just put the water in a clean trash can and filter it from there into the tank. I am very pleased with the results.

The rock formation on the right side is for the ghost shrimp to hide from the turtles.

The set-up looks so nice now! I'm sure they are very happy with all that you're doing for them.
