I found this turtle wondering down my street... I took pictures of him and made sure that he went back into the water ok... I haven't seen him since...

My guess is that it is a soft shelled snaping turtle... Am I right?

Well, I usually respond with some form of the word 'cute' when people post pics....not so sure about him, lol. How big do you estimate him?

Hello. I am new. I just wanted to say that there are alot of Softies in Oklahoma where I used to live, though there are billions more RES's. Behind a police station there was a huge pond that had the clearest water I knew of, and in it, if you were careful, you could sneak up to the water's edge and see literally like 30 huge foot+ monster Softies but the minute you made a jerky movement or sneezed or in some way drew attention to yourself they would all immediately run like the wild (which is impressive for turtles, especially underwater) far from view. Also, from my childhood turtle capturing adventures I can safely say the most agressive turtle I have ever handled (including alligator snapping turtles) was a small year old Softy. What they lack in shell strength they make up for in rage lol
