I went to the zoo today with Michael and his friend Rob. I got some neat pictures and I figured you guys would enjoy them!

Silly meerkats!
Image

Red panda I was sad he didn't come closer so I could get better pictures, he was so cute and fluffy!
Image

Sloths, I can't believe how long we stood there watching them. You'd think it would be boring but somehow it was just hilarious to watch them do something simple ridiculously slow.
Image

Some kind of monkey/babboon? I'm not good with ape species...
Image

This guy was cute, there was another one in the enclosure about half his size who wouldn't sit still long enough for a picture
Image

Don't know what these are called but I love them! Big ears...
Image

We spent a loooong time watching the lions, I think the boys liked them the best

Mmmm lunch...
Image

Immature...yes. But it amused me to see a big lion acting just like a housecat.
Image

I was particularly fascinated by the peacocks. They're just so pretty!

And of course...

Unfortunately all the turtles are in a section called 'USS Antiquities', which is basically a rock cave/tunnel with aquariums built into the walls, and it's far too dark for photos, so I didn't get any, but I did see a bog turtle and a spotted turtle, as well as several gigantic (at least 24") aquatic turtles, but I can't remember what they were called.

I went to the Washington Zoo awhile back and I had the best time watching the keeper feed grapes to a couple of Tree Sloths. It was a great experience.....I left wishing I could take one home with me.....

Those are great pix, thanks for sharing. The meerkats are so cute. I wonder when Animal Planet will have season 3 of "Meerkat Manor". Anyone watch that?

Terrific shots! I love looking at animals but start feeling sad when I start thinking that in the future for some species, probably the only place they're going to be able to be seen (and be safe and survive) are in zoos or some other enclosed habitat.
