I have two baby RES; Emerald(Emmie or Rocky for short, plus she has green ears!) and Pretty. (Don't ask me about her name. My brother named her. He's only 6 1/2.)

Thanks! I just took the pics a few minutes ago... Sorry for the fuzzyness of the pics, though. My mom's camera-phone kinda stinks at taking pics...

I hope that's a feeding tank, its small..you need a 20 gallon tank for two turtles of that size. What you have them in now is what RES keepers call "a deathbowl". Read the info on proper habitat in the main paige of this site.

I know it's too small, but try convincing my mom that. I saw a 20 galleon tank today, and she refused to let me buy it. But, honestly, don't you think that if she wants a rest from me bugging her about getting a 20 galleon, she would have said yes? Maybe I need to do more bugging...

Those turltes need a bigger tank, and a filter, water heater, UVB lighting..the works. Tell your mom that your turtles NEED this in order to survive. They wont survive long in what you have them in. A tank isnt neccesary, you can buy a rubbermaid container. They are cheap, 10$..and you can keep them in there.

Your babies are really cute, but I agree with everyone. They need a much bigger tank, even a 20 gallon wont last them long. 10 gallons per inch per turt... so you need at least a 20 gallon, which I would get a 40-50 gallon because that 20 gallon will last a couple months maybe. Your turts are going to grow 9-12 inches depending on the sex, so you will need at least a 340 gallon tank when they are adults. They also need a basking area, uva and uvb lighting, a filter and a heater. Without correct lighting and basking area, they will develop shell rot which is fatal. Like xsaving said... look into buying a rubbermaid container. They wont survive long living in those conditions. And they probably wont grow because they cannot process their calcium. I would ask family or friends to borrow money, or try to anything you can to save up. Maybe you could show your parents this site. If you cannot provide these requirements soon, you really should give your turts to someone who can, because they are suffering... and they could die. You also have to be prepared to pay for emergency vet bills which can be expensive

Well, give it a rest for tonight. Do some more research about your turtles and what they need to be healthy. Then put together some of that information and try to discuss it with your parents when they are in a good mood. :)

Remember, a cheap 20 gallon rubbermaid tub will work just as easily, and cost half as much.

Nagging isn't always the most effective method (NEVER worked with my parents anyways). Obviously you care a lot about your turtles and you should offer to make some deals/sacrifices with your parents to show them how serious you are. Turtles are not easy or disposable pets. They are complicated animals who can live for decades. Without the correct setup, you are looking at sick turtles... and vet bills will be very expensive. Anyway, make an agreement with them. You want to be a responsible keeper and since you are still dependent on them, you need to make sacrifices. Educate them on what you will eventually need and ask what you can do to accomplish that. Extra chores, good behavior, presents/gifts directed towards turtle supplies, you handling the cleaning and care, etc.

It's not easy, but you're not alone and others have been able to do it.

I've printed out alot of articles for my parents... Not sure if they've read them... But, at least my dad tried to find the UVB light we had when we kept anoles. Instead, he found that light that miners used, with the realy, realy long wires with a hook at the end. At least it's warm for them.
