Around January when my mom was working at a hotel, some house keepers came down to her and said that they found four baby turtles. So she called the people who stayed in the room and they said they didnt know anything about leaving turtles in the room (i think they were trying to get rid of them). So my mom called me on the phone and asked me if i wanted them and of course i said yes. When i got them they were only as big as a quarter and brought to me in a little container hardly filled with water(maybe a centimeter) with lettuce in it. But 2 of them died later from unkown reasons i think one of them had soft shell. But now i have 2 healty baby turtles that i love

Turtle Turtle, what a sweet story. You and your mom were so kind to take them in.

This is becoming a pretty common story on here. Someone gets turtles then decides they are too much trouble, and someone else who is kindhearted winds up with them. I think the ones that wind up with them and put the time and effort into bringing them up are the lucky ones because having a healthy turtle for years that knows you and likes you is very rewarding.

Yup, I'm definitely happy that I got my 3 little guys (and gal). The guy who owned them before me definitely wasn't able to take care of them anymore. But they've warmed up to me pretty quickly and they're so cool to have around. :D

Well the reason i bought mine was because i wanted a lizard. Yeah, I'm probably thinking why i got a turtle too. But the fact is my parents hate reptiles. (I got a gecko and my mom picked it up by its tail and the gecko detached itself and fell onto the ground. Needless to say i had to go on cleanup duty) Anyways, my mom felt bad for gecko's accident and she took me back to the pet store and got me a turtle, In defense she said, Now it won't matter if i drop it because its shell will protect it. We joked about it since it costed us $5 for the hatchling. We left the pet store with needless to say around $200 out of our pockets. But I feel great i got a turtle, I enjoy feeding it everyday and watching it chase the ping pong ball all around trying to catch it in its mouth. I also love cleaning his tank because thats the time he gets to explore my room. Over these past years my love for reptiles and living things have increased so much. during the summer im even getting a chameleon because my grades have been really high and i have a spare 10 gallon tanks since i moved my turtle into a big container

At first I wasn't very interested in turtles. My brother had 2 box turtles when we were lil' kids but they were always very messy and not cute at all. He never took care of them so they died rather quickly. When I was 16 I went to a local pet store and saw the most adorable creatures. About 15 redeared sliders swimming in a tank for only $14.99 each. On my birthday I bought them and put them in an old fish tank. I named them Mikey and Donnie(my 2 fave ninja turtles) and was actually planning on buying 2 more later on to complete the collection. Its a good thing I didn't. ^-^

I have always had dogs growing up. I currently have 2 dogs right now. Growing up, I was never really intersted in turtles, I wanted an iguana but my parents wouldn't let me. My boyfriend's sister currently has an adult RES & I fell in love with her (they named her Yurtle). She's a bit snappy & is in a tank that is waaaay too small for her, but she was a lot of fun to watch.

Recently, I've been going through a rough transition & my boyfriend & my dogs have helped a lot, but I wanted another pet. We live in a 800 sq ft apartment & have the 2 55 lb dogs, so getting another dog wasn't an option. (although I would love another dog in the house). I was looking on different websites where people would post the pets that they were rehoming & I saw a lot of people re-homing their RES's. I did a lot of research & decided that I really wanted one. But because of the apartment size I wanted one as small as possible. After looking around for a few weeks, I got into touch with a guy that had a few turtles that were about 2 inches that he was selling for $5. So I talked my boyfriend into letting me get one (Despite his objections, he agreed mainly to shut me up). & besides it's only$5 right? WRONG!! $110 later, we have now have August (not sure if it's a he or she but I think the name's cute nonetheless). & we had to go out & buy everything to get him set up. (Now, my boyfriend likes to throw the $5 comment at me all the time)

I look at August as a project of mine. Just in the sense that I have big plans for him & I can't wait until he gets big enough & we have a house so we can make a pond for him in the backyard. He has definately helped take my mind off of the events that have happened. With all the money we've spent to get his tank going, I have no regrets in getting him. He's amazing!
