I think I misunderstood... when you said home business do you mean he's a breeder? In which case, do not give him the business. I thought that he had some other business out of his house and just had the turtle as a hobby. If anything, tell/show him about care sheets for softshell turtles... perhaps get him to realize that better set ups lead to healthier turtles which means more money in the long run.

No i dont think that he breeds them. I think that he just gets them from other people then sells the turtles. And the other day I went and he has like 30 turtles in a 20 gallon tank!!

Well either way, if that's his business don't support him. It's one thing if someone can't take care of a turtle because they didn't realize the work involved, it's another to continually put turtles in bad situations and make money off of it.
He doesn't have to breed the turtles to make it a bad situation.

Yes, softshell turtles are very similar to snapper turtles in terms of personality. Both are aquatic turtles that like to be in the water more than being on land. They have a tendency to sit under the water & sulk. Softshells & snappers both grow to be a MINIMUM of 12 inches in length, but usually closer to 16-18 inches long. They require a lot more care than most pet owners are willing to give because of their size & snappy personality.

Unlike Trix, these AREN'T for kids. :)
