Actually, they do kill them just to sell the shells for the tourist trade. Very sad, imo. I would not buy one.

I know in that particular country that nothing goes to waste. Why would they harvest the turt for the shell and throw away the meat when it can be sold for $10 a pound?

There isn't a lot of meat on a turtle. The primary money from selling a turtle shell comes from the shell itself. If a turtle is being harvested for meat, the shell rarely survives intact.

Well my husband grew up there and he tells me that everything is used. Thinking about some of the stuff they eat over there kindof proves his point.. I mean, why eat chicken feet?:shock:

People eat chicken feet here (i.e., the U.S.) too.

Maybe you don't mean to be offensive, but your attitude borders on racist.
