I have had res for a great long while and over the years I have noticed that they display a look from the eyes and the head of pleasure. When I look into their eyes I can see their pleasure, or their fear of a body they do not recognize going at them or the look of curiosity in the eye and what have you. I believe that turtles are alot more intelligent then most will give them credit for and I would like to hear your comments as well.

While my turtle isn't exactly ready for med school, I do think he's a lot smarter than most people think. I mean sure.. he tries to swim through his tank... but i mean... haven't we all walked into a glass door?(maybe thats just me...) I've heard a lot of arguments saying that reptiles dont show affection toward people, show sadness, happiness or any other emotions, but notice how none of them actually own a turtle. The fact is, theyre just like any other pet(but obviously 3298345 times better) and without emotion.. would they really make such great pets?

When I look at mine-it seems I can tell if they are sleepy-courious-hungry(which is always)-exited-scared-or what have you-You would think by now they would stop running into the glass -I walk into the door frames almost everyday-you think I would stop by now also -but for some reason as I go to walk thru the frame that aludes me. (lol) But I agree with y'all they are smarter than people give them credit for but yea dont think mine are ready for Grad school either. LOL - I really love being a turtle owner. I could just sit and watch them for hours.

I would agree that turtles have emotions. Mine sometimes gets a very quizzical look in her eyes when she really focuses & looks at something intently.

When I take her out of the tank and she looks up at me, she almost looks like she wants to sit up (like a dog) since she stretches up on her front legs & looks up at me. Very sweet!

Also, there are times when I swear I see her smiling (I've had others comment on it too). Strange but true.
