One of my friends just called me saying their turtle was dead fried on the rock :( . She went on a two day vacation and didn't have a light timer, or at least forgot to turn off the basking light. The turtle got cooked on the rock and when she came back she had to pry the poor thing off. So sad. :(

That's so sad! :( I've heard of turtles being knocked out by the heat if it's too strong, sort of like heat stroke. Maybe this is why he couldn't get off of the rock and back into the water before he died. :(

Seems to me that it wasn't just an issue for those two days, but that the temps have been too high all along. The fact that the lights were left on doesn't mean the heat should have built up...unless the container is enclosed?

Sorry about the loss.

Hatchlings are really sensitive to the heat, and can get disoriented, unable to move to get out of the heat if it's too strong. (A reason why care should be taken to check the temp.)

Very sad to hear this. :(
