I rescued a baby red ear slider about 4 months ago from an employee at work. He was going to put him in a stream! He is a great turtle (very cute), but unfortunately I think he is very lonely and bored. My husband and I work long hours and do not really have time to pay attention to "Tony". I feel horrible but am glad that I at least saved him. Does anyone want him? I will give you all the supplies I have for free. I would love to find Tony a home that would provide more interaction with him.

I think you should keep him. If you have the means to give him a proper habitat (large tank/uvb lighting/etc) then he really doesn't need much as far as human interaction. They're really not social critters.

I used to think Gandalf was lonely too, until I joined here and found out otherwise. I agree with Jen, you should keep him. Once you get the routine down in caring for him, he'll be such a joy to your family. We're always here for support and help when you need it.
Offer him some entertainment by placing some large river rocks, bigger than his head at the bottom of his tank to root around in, some weighted plastic plants he can move around, and some suggest a ping pong ball, although mine didn't like it. Also, you can place a small mirror on the outside of his tank. My turtle, and a few others on here absolutely love looking at themselves in it. Keep us posted on your decision and progress with Tony. He's about 3.5 inches. Its a guestimate (i'm not home). He's gotten alot bigger since I first got him. He's thick. I can posts pics tomorrow for you.

Thanks for all your recommendations. If no one wants him, I will have to keep him. I am not going to just get rid of him. But the offer is still on the table for anyone that wants a new turtle.

If I still lived in PA I would take him off your hands in a heartbeat but like Jen said, they don't NEED human attention like a dog does. The only thing you need to provide for him is the proper habitate nutrition and vet care. If you can afford to keep him I think it would be worth it for both you and your husband because watching turtles after a long day is a great way to unwind.
