I hate to tell you this YoSoyEseGato... if you didn't think that you were going to get a negative reaction over someone being so careless you were mistaken. As for wetting our "britches" what he's doing is equvilant of doing it to an infant who has no control over the circumstances, the turtle is just as helpless to stop him. In my opinion, you shouldn't have needed to ask us what you should have told him. You should have had the common sense to know whether it was wrong or right.

The fact of the matter is, we love and care for our pets and other animals as well. Yeah, quite a few of us are irritated with the abuse which your friends turtle has to withstand and rightfully so. But to me it seems you really don't care what happens to your friends turtle, you're just looking for attention from us.

Sorry Steve, Marisa, Jen.... This has me really irriated.

Speaking for myself, no problem, flutterby.

I think the subject of RES sense of smell and breathing has been addressed in older posts. Perhaps a search on the topic would have given you the information you wanted, YoSoyEseGato.

RES breath like we do. Actually their sense of smell is as good under water as it is above it.

The fact that their behavior is different after having been exposed to the smoke certainly means they're affected by it. Too bad they can't let you know if they don't like it (can't imagine why they would).

Everyone on here that is "wetting their britches" is doing so because of the cruelty to animals that is obviously an issue with your friend. This site is here to help our turtles, and when we see abuse or neglect of anyone's turtle, we comment on it. Everyone knows the detrimental effects of smoke in humans...it's the same for any living creature. It's poison, any way you look at it...

I agree with missibsu: you wouldn't have asked in the first place if you thought it wasn't harmful or abusive to the turtle.
