My turtle puffs out her neck when I'm about to feed her. Is that a normal behavior .

My turtle does that but it looks like he's breathing because when he comes up for his food, he's been under the water. Could it be that?

I dont think that it would really show up well in a pic scripta_elegans. I guess that could be what is happening CountryGirl68. I never thought of that for an explanation for some reason. But now that you say it, it sounds pretty logical. Durrr.

Same here, they do that all the time when they've been underwater for a good chunk of time.

Sounds like normal breathing to me. My RES's neck always puffs out like that when she is just breathing.
