My turtle Don San, that was 7 months old, passed away on 1/26. I don't know what happened. He was sick on and off since I bought him in July. He never grew and I had a hard time to even get him to eat anything. He went so fast Friday night that it scared me so much. I wanted to thank everyone here for helping me with all the questions. You guys were the best to me to help him. I really appreciate it. It hurts a lot right now still because his tank was in my room, but eventually I guess I'll get better.

I just hate how people in NYC in Chinatown were selling them. I know they took them from Turtle Pond. I bought him because I felt sorry for him. I wish I could find a way to get them to stop doing this to these poor little guys.

Here's a desktop collage I made of my turtle.

Thank you, Starchick. Yeah he was an angel. He was so attached to me. He was spoiled rotten. I spent over $500 in the past 7 months to get him whatever he needed and for his countless vet visits.

If you're in the NYC area, there is a place on LI (I can't recall the name or find the website) that has RES for adoption. Better yet, PM Mybrosteve. He's got 15 babies up for adoption. He is in the Philly area, about a 90 min. drive.......I'm sorry to hear about Don San. Sometimes, for no apparent reason, babies just don't make it.......

Thanks, industrial girl. Thank you for your help so much.

Thanks for the info grey goose. I am gonna wait for awhile before I replace him. I want to move out of my house and get settled before I get another one.

That's so sad about your little turtle! Once you get settled, I do hope you'll think about adopting another one. There are so many that need good homes and you sound like a caring type that would provide a good one.

It's true what the others said. Not only are the little ones fragile to begin with, but so often, especially if they're from China Town, they've been living in unhealthy conditions, which means they've got two strikes against them before you ever even get them home.

I know. I want a healthy one but I dont know where to get one from around here you know? They are illegall to sell in Virginia and I want a small one to start off so I can keep the tank sizes small but like I said I may wait a few years to get settled because like I said, it's hard to replace him right now. My dad offered to get me another one or a dog but I told him I didn't want to do that.

It's really hard for me right now because I was so attached to the little guy. I did whatever I could for him. I use to get up at 6am every morning to feed him and if he was sick during the night I stayed up with him. He always was looking for me my mom said if I went out in the evenings. He was a little angel. He was in my room so now when I come home I want to run in and check on him and realize he's not there and plus I may be finally moving out of my house and since he's buried in a nice little chest near my house I don't want to move out now LOL.

Thanks for the kind words.

Kazari, here's some good advise on how to pick a healthy turtle:

http://www.redearslider.com/forum/viewt ... ht=healthy

And like you've heard before, Mybrosteve had about a dozen healthy ones to give away, and George had a bunch - close to 200! They were rescues from a river in Pennsylvania. Don't know if they'll still be available when you're ready to try again, but if it's in the near future you might check with them.

Isn't Virginia pretty close to Pennsylvania? (Geography just eludes me!)

It's a few hours away from PA. Thanks I think once I get my own place I'm going to get a big tank and everything I need to begin with and buy a baby from someone who raises them so I know they are healthy.
