Against what everyone here told me I decided to buy a turtle online anyway... guess there website convinced me they were good people... guess again... the turtle came and and the packaging was so bad... the turtle was left in a plastic container that was empty... during his travel he must have been thrown every which way not to mention the container had no holes in it... I opened the container and I thought the turtle was dead.. I was so angry.. upon closer look at the turtle it look so unhealthy the top of his shell had chipped pieces on it and the bottom had shell rot...even so I put the turtle in my tank in hopes that it would still be alive and to my astonishment after a day the turtle moved.. I wrote a email to them saying how displeased I was and how they could be sending out such unhealthy turtles to people... of course I never got a reply from them.. I had a two day guarantee from them but I couldn't send the turtle in his current condition... besides I wouldn't want to send the turtle back to those monsters anyway... it has been two days now and the turtle is showing signs of it getting better.. it is moving alot more but not much.. the turtle even opened his eyes and his eyes look so deformed.... it is like he is looking through a pin hole... I don't think his eyes can open normal.. it is like the edges of his eyes lids won't come apart... he was basking today and streched his arms out but after I came back from work he was in the exact same place so i moved into the water....he looks so unhealthy... I don't think he will make it but I am going to see if he can...

I would have been better off going to a flea market at least the turtles look healthy even know most of them probably have diseases..

A perfect example why people should never buy their turtles (or any pets for that matter) online, they're shipped out like toys or clothes.

I wish you luck, I know how you feel.
It is not just turtles that are cared for and shipped this way. When it comes to money some people will do any thing.
If you get the turtle to live it will be a wonderful feeling to have saved just one mistreated animal.
Turtle probably need vitamins, A, A for the ears. I hope you can get him or she to eat. Poor baby.

It just really makes you think about how low people would go as to treat a creature this way. People need to understand that turtles (as well as other pets sold online) are living and breathing creatures who also need safety and comfort as do humans. The other day I was just watching news on online dog sales, and the dogs come with disease..shivering in their cages. Juts really gets my blood boiling. I wish you the best of luck. Save him/her as much as you can. Also if her eyes are swelling, there is an inexpensive but effective way of dealling with that. When my Zero was sick, i used a solution of DISTILLED water and regular salt. Dip a qtip in the solution and rub it on his/hereye. Try to get inside so that it can reach maximum effectiveness. Do it once during the day and once during the night. My zero recovered in 2 days from her swollen eye. She has recently passed though due to unknown causes, not even the vet knows. (rip zero)

all day yesterday the turtle wasn't moving at all I thought it was pretty much the end... but I woke up to find the turtle really active this morning... he isn't diving or anything just swimming around the tank.. and all of a sudden he is shedding like crazy.... I really think the turtle is going to make it after all.. just a question though I said he had chipped areas on the top of his shell... like the scouts got chipped off and what is left is like cardboard brown spots.. will they grow back or are they going to be scars for life...

I think it depends on how deep the "chips" went. If it is just superficial and only the shedding layer or two were affected then the shell should recover after a few sheds. If it has actually changed the shape of the shell then it may be more permanent. Can you post pics? I'm so curious to see the little survivor

Hope you can get him or she to eat.
Some times the eye problems are from a very poor diet.
There are a few antibiotic ointments for pets you can buy, some pet shops sell it. Pigeon shops and feed live stock store sell it, Dr. froster & Smith sells it.
I hate to say this, I don't want to get in trouble, you could try useing Boric Acid. One Cup Of Water and 1/8 teaspoon of boric acid, never think more is better, bath eyes twice a day. Water should be boiled, add borci acid," LET MIX COOL".
Boric acid is in many eye washs.

PLEASE never put acid in a turtles eye's, if there is that much concern over the eyes then see a VET!


Boric acid draws the water out of stuff...why it's used to KILL roaches, they eat it and it sucks all the liquid from their bodies and they DIE. Puting this into a turtles eyes can in no way be safe.

Back to the topic....anyone shipping hatchling turtles this time a year is probly shipping freezer babies, and those rarley live and are always sick. I have NEVER bought a turtle unseen, shipped from someone where I have seen pics and the name of the person is known by big shots in the turtle world then yes I would, but there are to many close by that I can buy from. The site I assume your talking about does sell freezer babies....where are people getting hatchlings this time of year?


Want healthy baby turtles? DO NOT buy in the middle of winter,or the middle of summer, and buy from a breeder you know, anyone needs names of some pm me and I can hook ya up with a breeder that calls when there is a fungus going through his stock to let you know what to watch out for, and is concerned about the turtles not the money. Anyone in it for the money is willing to sell sick turtles.

Just a note--I've known keepers who have had success with a solution of boric acid and distilled water in treating inflamed eyes (one member on this forum as well), the exact proportion escapes me at the moment, and it is an ingredient in many eyewashes. But for inflamed eyes, you can safely use the drops that Zoo-Med puts out (they have a form of vit. A in them).

Please get another one. You can adopted one that needs a home, there are so many of beautiful turtle.
