I know that when turtles act all excited to see you it's supposed to mean they are hoping you will feed them. But honestly, my turtle seems to be more interested in attention than food. He'll always eat what I put in the tank, but he doesn't just rush to it, he keeps his focus on me even after I've put the food in as long as I stay by his tank. I only feed him once a day - it's always been that way - but he gets exciting every time I come into the room, even after he's been fed. The way he follows me with his eyes, and watches any activity in the room sure makes it seem like he's looking for fun as much as for food.

This is just an observation.

I think one of mine actually likes me, or is at least curious. he looks up at me when I pick him up, and hangs out on the side of the tank nearest me when I'm on the computer or studying.

Sounds like a carbon copy of Helmholtz.

As soon as i enter the room he follows me along his tank splashing water wildly until I come and look at him. I'll drop some food in the tank and he continues staring at me and splashing until I point the food out to him...

Then when I pick him up he crawls off to explore. =P

I took him to the park a few times and he crawls towards me and stands on my shoe even though he has all the room in the world. =]

I wonder what they think to.
I know they know me from other people. They get frighten when company goes to look at them. They will be sitting on their basking platform jump into the water and hide under the platform.
I don't think there brain is to big.

Napoleon LOVES people. If you stand in front of the tank, he struggles to get closer to you, and if you move around the tank, he follows desperately. When I feed him, I have to leave the room because he will ignore the food until I'm gone. I think he probably is long past being shy because of having been a class pet at one point and then living in the entryway of a very busy home for many years. He also seems to respond to eye contact.

Mine does the same thing!

I just thought she wasn't all that smart enough to realize she has turtle pellets floating aorund her head...

Or maybe she saw them but wants something else instead. Like a live fishy

Sometimes my turtle doesnt see the pellet becuase its right below his eye and when he puts his head down a little bit, he see it on his eye and gets a little scrared and jumps back.

My turtles watch me, too, after I put food in. I just figured it was to make sure I went away so they could eat in peace. Sad, but, I think... true. For mine.
