First off, we'd like to thank this site, I bought a RES for my girfriend for christmas and it was sick with RI from the pet store (we had no clue), now that it is better and in a big tank, all is well.

Regardless, we just assumed it was a male turtle, but looking through some info on the site again, we've come to the sad realization that we may have been totally wrong. What do you guys think?

closeup of front claws, smaller ... points towards girl

(sorry about focus) cloaca closer to shell ... again ... points to girl

and the smaller tail in general ... one more time ... girl

So im figuring it's a girl, just want to have someone else tell me as well.

But the bigger one is we'd like to have a ball park on how old she is. We finally officially measured her about 2 weeks ago and it was 6" SCL right on the dot. Anybody have a guess for a girl on that one? I was thinking around 4 or 5? Or have a guess on growth rate?

The main reason is that I want to prepare myself to buy a bigger tank than the 60 gallon she's in right now/making a fake nesting enclosure so she can lay eggs if need be.

Now we have to think of a new name, the god of savage war just doesn't say feminine to me.

If all those pics are the same turtle and it's 6 inches then it's a girl. A six inch res can be anywhere in age, I have a two year old that is 8 inches and a 3 year old that is 6 inches, all depends on the care and food they were given.

yep, all the same turtle, and i can only assume that the care she got before making it to us was pretty bad, considering she was sick when we got her. (and crammed in a 20 gallon tank with 2 inches of water and no uvb light)

So ... I'll just base mine off of yours turtle addict and call her 3.

I also vote girl, and age could be anywhere between 2-10 I would guess. Sorry, I know the age isn't much help.

Males .. when they are bigger have way longer claws than females so you may have to compare when i saw a male then a female i could really see the difference
