Hello everybody,
My name is Helen, I live in China. I’m sorry my English is not very good, But I will do my best to make myself understood.
I want to tell you a cruel event, I don’t know if it’s suitable to discuss that here, if not, I apologize. I just think those pitiful babies need more help.
I love animals including turtles and tortoises, including Red eared sliders. I found out that most of Red eared slider living in china have got into miserable situation. I’m very sad. I hope to do something for them.
A while ago, I read a news in a piece of paper, which reported that relevant government departments sent personnel to search everywhere for Red eared sliders, hundreds ones were concentrated and were burned in the fire alive. The authorities’ cause is that Red eared sliders are exotic dangerous species threatening native turtles.
Later on I saw similar reports more than once.
they broke my heart whenever I read those news, what a cruel act! It is not wrong protecting native turtles, of course I know. But I think nobody has the right to treat sentient being with such cruel way. I have got a few little turtles, I sense each of them is very sensitive. They have emotion. They can feel happiness, joy, sadness, fear, and love. Every time they look at me I’m always touched by their beautiful, pure eyes. Every time I think of those pitiful babies struggling despairingly with blazing fire I always can’t help shedding tears.
I think that all animals are beautiful, invaluable. They should enjoy fair right. We must treat them with humanity. When such events happen again and again, we can’t be indifferent, silent. So I once wrote to relevant government departments, but they didn’t give me any answer.
I am very disappointed, but I’m not going to give up so I want to discuss with everyone here, can we do something for those pitiful babies? One, please pass the cruel thing on to more friends who love animals and more Animal rights organization, then those pitiful babies can get more chances to be helped. Thanks a lot! Two, even if it’s true that Red eared sliders may threaten native turtles, we must protect native tortoises and show mercy to Red eared sliders at the same time. So please tell me what we should do and how other countries did if you know that. Thanks a lot!! And three, do you know what else we can do for them? I’ll try my best to do anything I can for them.
Again thanks a lot!!!

Helen,

Your English is excellent, really superb.

You said you've seen articles in the newspaper on the sliders. Could you make a copy or image of such an article and post it on here? Most of us cannot, of course, read Chinese, but some of our members can.

Good luck. I think you'll find many people on here who are concerned about the plight of turtles and have compassion for them.

Hello Helen! Welcome to the forum & thanks for posting! You did a great job with your English.

I am also a very sensitive person & love my pets very much. Recently, my baby RES died of a strange illness and I was very sad! I treat all my pets with love & kindness & I buy lots of things to make their lives better.

I don't know how to help you, but I know there is an organization called "PETA" ("People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals") which helps animals all over the world. Maybe you can contact them to see if they have an organization in China that can help you? Let us know what you find out!

Thank you for your post Helen! Your english is very good and your post almost made me cry.

I searched for some more information on Google about the situation you described but I couldn't find anything specifically about China rounding up and exterminating RES. But I did find out that RES are considered some of the most invasive aquatic animals in the world. They are banned in parts of Africa, India, Austrailia, and the UK. I never knew!

Please keep us updated!

this post upsets me. your english is very good, and it's very nice to see someone who has such concern. it hurts that people do that, though. they boil lobster alive, too, that's one reason i refuse to eat it.

i would concur with industrial_girl_2000's advice and try contacting PETA to see if they have a branch in china. http://www.peta.org/ in the meantime, bug the heck out of your government, let them know the cruelty is not tolerated. if you can get others to back you up, even better.

I've heard of a few countries who capture and kill RES because they are invasive. I am not sure what you can do aside from the suggestions provided. Online petitions and campaigns seem to have some effect as well as any type of media coverage (such as online newspapers). Writing to them is usually better than any sort of government response.

Are the RES wild or captive? China still imports RES, so I don't know if they can block that on a local level. I've seen "wild" RES in China, but those were in areas such as parks with artificial bodies of water.

Hi everybody,
It’s Helen, sorry I just saw your replies because I didn’t get a chance to stay on the computer yesterday.
Thanks a lot for replying, you are all my friends.
I have carefully read every reply, ok, I’ll think seriously about what we can do, and then I’ll post here again as soon as possible, you know, it will take more time for me to write English, I always keep a dictionary beside me when I’m writing.
If you have any suggestion, please post and let me know. I do really want to do some things for babies, they are all angels, I can’t bear to see them to be hurt.
I’ll also make a copy of such an article and post it on here, but, that is wrote in Chinese, it’s ok? I have no image at the moment.
I want to kiss all animals in the world.

Thanks. You're an angel for caring so much.

I think with an article there would be some specifics (where exactly is this happening? when? what government agency is responsible?) that would help someone who was trying to get the policy to change.

You take care.

Hi everybody.
Hi SpotsMama, thank you.
Hi industrial_girl_2000, I know much about your mood, I also have a few babies died, I’m still very very sad, I even don’t dare to think of them.
Hi Hoooneylynn, thank you for crying for babies.
Sorry I can’t reply every post, because it really will take much time for me, you are all my friends.
I have some links about burning RES, I’ll post them on here, but I don’t know if you can read, if not, I’ll translate them and post again.
As I said in my first post, I once wrote to relevant government departments, but they didn’t give me any answer. you know, China is very different from America, I have to say Chinese government don’t care enough about the animal, there is no law to protect them, it’s the reason why I came here to ask for help. I know much about China, Chinese government attach very importance to the international image. So I think if there are some foreign Animal rights organization or Turtle protection organization to take a protest against it, maybe the pressure of the opinion might help RES. I have contacted PETA, but they have not acted. I want to contact more still foreign Animal rights organization or Turtle protection organization and see if they can help. But I don’t know about foreign Animal rights organization, so I want to ask for help from you, could you pass the cruel event on to them and ask for help from them? it’s very important, you know, there still be lots of poor babies to be burn alive or to be hurt.
Thanks a lot.

Hi JadePLightning, thank you.
I’ll try to find some images or pictures about burning RES, but I don’t know how long it will take, because I didn’t find any on Net, I’ll try to look for them by other way.
Ok, bye, I just want to help those poor babies, they are so pitiful.
