I was reading some stuff about RES like always to learn more and I stumbled upon some websites that sell turtles... How do they ship them? Isn't it bad for them? I want to buy a male... I'm pretty sure I have a female. She looked just like the female pic in the 'gender' section on redearslider.com. She's small but it looks identical.

There's no visible way for you to tell what gender a turtle is until they mature to 4 inches or more. That said, you're really better off with just one turtle since there's a good chance that they will start to fight as they get a little bigger. Also some online dealers who sell RES have a bad reputation for selling sick or dying animals. Baby turtles in general don't ship very well and that alone increases the chance that you will have to take it to a vet soon after you receive it. If you [i]really[/] want another turtle and are prepared to have another complete setup to house it, you may want to try looking at adoptions since there are so many unwanted RES out there.

I agree. I have a feeling i know what site you visited..:( Not only are some online dealers bad, but when you order an animal via mail you run the risk of getting a sick animal! You dont want that...

Also, dont believe those sites. There is no way you can tell if a turtle is male or female until it grows to be about 4 inches. Those sites just want to sell.

Another thing..having two turtles is alot of work, it means double the space, double the money, and guess what? If they dont get along, you have to seperate them. Now we all know how much it costs to setup a proper turtle setup, over 200$ (rough estimate) now multiply that by two?

But if you have the money, and the space for a 240 gallon tank, go for it. If not, screw the idea :D
