I'm sorry, scorpions give me the creeps. I'd rather have the crickets!

Different strokes for different folks I guess.

I think scorpions are interesting, but it isn't a pet I could ever have. My husband HATES arachnids of any sort. There are some very cute fuzzy tarantulas out there too, but he will have no part of that. (He also finds raccoons much cuter than puff adders incidentally.)

I truely believe for every creature there's going to be someone that loves them and thinks they are neat and that's fine with me. Any negative feelings I have about an animal are purely subjective and are probably just prejudices I acquired when I was a kid. I apologize if anything I say about a creature offends anyone. That said.....

I went to a reptile show recently and it seemed almost every booth was offering scorpians as well as reptiles. They were huge black things with enormous claws and stingers. I could almost feel the hostility radiating off of them. There were boxes full of these scorpians. They made me jumpy and I was very glad they didn't escape. Just thinking about them still makes my hair stand on end.

oooh Aren't emperor scorpions timid? I don't think anyone felt offended by what you said, Spotsmama, EVERYBODY has to have SOMETHING that creeps them out.

I don't think there is ANY animal I find creepy EXCEPT for flies. I can tolerate, even hold spiders and scorpions and snakes and whatnot, but flies just scare me. Since I have a little dog who poops in the yard, we never have a shortage of the most BIGGEST, HAIRIEST, YUCKIEST flies I have ever, ever seen. Bad experience when I was little. Huge big hairy fly smacked into my face once when i was running. Not a nice experience. Bleurgh...

Good thing I'm growing Venus Flytraps!! :D :D

question... i assume scorpions you would buy in a pet store have no (venom/poison?) is that correct? also, do you ever take your scorpion out or would it sting you? sorry I'm ignorant about these things

I love scorpions too! :D It's wierd cause I hate spiders (personal prejudice, I'm sure they're very nice little creatures :P). Actually, I never thought about it before but I think what Spotsmama said about them exuding hostility is what I find so cool. Their like an armored assualt vehicle!

The Emporer Scorpions (the big black shiney ones) are supposed to be one of the least aggressive of the scorpions. Their sting is also less dangerous (I assume it's like a really bad wasp sting). Those are the ones you can find at most pet stores. The deadlier kinds you can get from private dealers and at some reptile shows. I saw a really cool site that sold all kinds of scorpions including the deadly Deathstalker Scorpion. They also had a lot of information about all of the ones they sold too. I wish i could remember where that site was. :? I'll post a link to it if I can ever find it again.

I am allergic to wasp and bee stings, so I do tend to exit the area fairly quickly when I see them. I have a disturbing number of people who have volunteered to stab me with my epipen if I need it, but I'd rather not give them the chance to stab me. I HATE roaches. I know they aren't dangerous, but I am severely allergic to them as well, and they smell horrible. I know they can be a prey source for my little lizards, but there is no way I will ever bring any into the house.

You know, I think I'll say that the next time one of them asks eagerly if I've been stung!

The superworms can bite, but i've never had one bite me before and i always grab them by hand. They can chew through cardboard and soft plastic though.
