I just got back from a trip to Texas and visited a winery, Messina Hof in Bryan (near Texas A&M). They have a little lake with over 50 red ear sliders that beg you for food! Obviously they feed them. Among them I saw 3 softshell turts and was told that there are yellow bellied sliders in there, too. It was amazing how they begged. I thought they would act wild and be afraid. It was wonderful to watch. Maybe they eat grapes!! It made me miss my little Sheba. :o

If they're in territory they know (the pond), constantly have tourists around, and the tourists are giving them food, they'll become used to being fed and will beg when they see a "food giver." If someone tried to pick one up out of the water, though, I wonder what the reaction would be.

I did take a digital picture, but lost my way of getting the pix on my computer. I'll get it done and see if I can post it. Hopefully there wasn't much glare from the water. There was one large female that was very aggressive towards the other turts. She looked like the biggest one.

Neat. There are instructions on posting a picture at the top of the photo section.
