Jess+skittles, is there any break in the skin where it's being bitten?

Hmmm.... my turtle bites both his arms all the time too. I was actually kind of worried about that. The other turtle in the tank doesn't do it so I don't think my water quality is poor... Could it just be shedding and something not to worry about? He is in general a lot crazier than the other turtle.

Reptomin baby turtle pellets and dried shrimp

Add some green romaine or green lettuce to the diet as well, just for variety (there are many other veggies you can feed too, if you go to the main www.redearslider.com part of the website & click on feeding....there's a big long list!). Dried shrimp should only be an occasional treat. Reptomin is a good balanced pellet & it is one I have been using with a lot of success for the last 18 yrs. Some folks like Mazuri pellets too but they are harder to find.

Don't worry, when turtles bite their arms, sometimes they are just scratching. Reptile skin can be a bit itchy, and they can't scratch themselves with their other hand/nails. :)

Biting at the limbs can indicate a nutritional deficiency, which is why I was asking about the diet. If your turtle is eating only Reptomin and dried shrimp, his diet is fairly high in protein, and he really should have other foods in the diet as well. Try some of the ones on the feeding list. It may not stop his biting (may not be the cause), but he'll be healthier for it.
