Since i have been on this website i have spent a small fortune on my 3 turts. This website has been great but i find myself making sure my babies have everything they need. So far i have gotten countless little things, 2 uvb's, around $100 worth of wood for the stand i just built, and next comes a lot for the aquarium. Phew....I think i'm done for a while. All they will need now is food. I am not complaining at all. I just wonder if other people have done the same as me since coming on this site.

I've spent about $60 plus food. That was on lighting/light fixtures and a small tank which I've upgraded since to a tank that I already had in storage. I also had a filter and heater as well. I don't think that's too bad. Considering I know there's a lot more upgrading to do in the future as he grows though. My ultimate goal is to have a pond out back, but that's only a dream right now. It might turn into a must though if Koopa turns out to be female. A full grown female would need much more room than I can provide with an aquarium in the house. We'll have to wait and see on that one though, because he's still little.

My UVB lights (multiple) come into $275 alone. My tanks are actually cheaper and has only costed me about $250
The food has come up to $100 still counting and buying. The decor of the habitat has costed me well over $200 and filters, heaters, dock etc has costed me about $700

This is only because I have 13 tanks.

I don't spend money because of this website, I spend it because I love my turtles. I rather have them be happy and healthy, then just existing to amuse me.

I have probably spent about 100 but I already had the tank, stand, and heater- before I even brought Neptune home.

My initial purchase was $200 including the turtles. Got on the net, realized EVERYTHING the pet store told me was wrong, went out the next day and spent $400. I'm moving in December and I'll be upgrading again so it'll run me around $1000 for the new setup.

I did all of my research before hand and ended up spending about a total of $250 including the actual turtle (I already had the tank). In a couple of months I hope to upgrade so it will cost me a bigger tank as well as a better filter.

I can't even calculate all the money I've spent on mine and flutterby's turtles... Money well spent, they are much better taken care of now.. so yes being part of this forum has cost me plenty, but all for a good cause.

i spend about 100 everytime i goto the store....but the next time i go its gunna be close to 500...new BIG tank and filter system.

before you buy your filter, check online. Depending on the type or where you shop you may be able to save yourself up to half the price.

I just found an awesome quote and thought it fit in so well under this post. So I thought I'd share it with you all. Hope you don't mind:

It is worth noting that a hatchling may only cost a couple of pounds or dollars or so to purchase initially, but it will cost at least 100 times its initial purchase price to maintain successfully as an adult (tank, heating & lighting equipment and filtration). This is not taking into account running costs, possible veterinary fees or feeding. At these low prices, turtles are often impulse purchases - how many people would take on this commitment if they knew what was really involved in caring for them properly?

This is from another site on caring for turtles/tortoises but I knew when I read it how true it was. It's a commitment to raise our turtles to live the long, happy, healthy lives they are supposed to live, and I guess that means we all will not be buying those really awesome shoes, or that new electronic gadget on an impulse buy in the future.

I can't begin to count how much I've spent. But I do keep receipts. Someday, with a bottle of wine next to me, I'll add them up.

A lot. lol. My friend thinks I'm nuts. She has had a turtle for 8 or 9 years now and all she provided it with was a tank and a little bit of water (she only recently put it in a 20 gallon tank with water for him to become fully submerged...he's about 5 or 6 inches) and told me I didn't need all the things I was buying for it. After reading everything on this site I'm amazed that her turtle isn't dead...or sick at the very least.

Anywho, I've spent about $10 for the turtle, 3 for food, $10 for a turtle dock, $30 for a filter, $35 for lamps and bulbs, around$15 for other things (plants, thermometers, etc.). Probably $15 for veggies and crickets. I would say a little over $100. That's actually a lot less than I thought I had spent. Although I just had to buy a new tank because mine is leaking for some reason. But it's okay, because I love my turtle very much.

so far i would say i have spent about $80 for filters, bulbs, dock, food and the turtles. The rest of the stuff i had already from previous fish tanks

but i can see myself doing some upgrading soon
