Guys, I am moving from Massachusetts to California. How do I get my baby there? Is it possible? Oh yeah, I am driving. Gimme a shout with any ideas / solutions. Thanks, fella's!

There's a really old post about someone moving across country with their turtle as well as some other posts about traveling with your turtle. It would be helpful to search for these since I can't remember detail by detail what traveling with a turtle entails.

Some pointers that I do remember, don't travel with him in water. The sloshing motion isn't good for him. Keep him out of breezes/drafts from A/C or out of heat. Keeping him inside a container that's dark with something to burrow under would be good. I think what the other person would do is fill up a container of water when stopping at night in the hotel to place him in. So you would need a container to do this with and his food to feed him at this time.

Hope this helps. :)

No, it's fun! I've done it (but without any turtles). :) With the price of gas it won't be cheap, though.

Well, I think it'll be neat. I am going to see TONS of stuff! But I don't wanna hurt Rosaline to do it! And I don't wanna have to give her up either. But I need to do what is best for her, you know?

Twinkey, his turtle will be much better off driving with him rather than being shipped so it can get proper care on the trip. I personally don't trust shipping live pets even if precautions are taken.

Israfel, here's some more links to read (the first one is the one I was thinking of... I think  :

So, I think I have decided that I am too poor for my cross-country road-trip. =O( I have decided to fly. Much easier to keep Rosaline safe, it seems. Here's the pickle; the airlines seem to only like mammals. Hmmm. What do I do? Anyone know of an airline that will let me carry her on? I'd rather not have her handled by the careless hands of the baggage "throwers".

i dont know of any, but i have never ran into a situation that i needed to find out which ones did.

if i were you, i would call them all and ask....

somewhere down the line someone might give.... be sure to know exactly who you are speaking with and i would go ahead of time and get written confirmation

you dont want any disasters at the airport the day of your trip...

good luck! keep us posted

Guys -

I can't find anyone who will let me carry her on. =O( I am weary about shipping her. I don't want anything to happen and I simply CANNOT afford to drive right now. So, I am in quite the pickle.
I am seriously, and grudgingly, considering giving her away. =O( I HAAAAAATE it, but I have to do what is best for her, right? I don't want to just give her to a pet store because I wont know who actually gets ahold of her and she is so big and her shell is so...white...I don't think anyone would buy her and what would become of her then? =O(
So, I live in Boston. If ANYONE on here would be interested in adopting a very fun turtle with a fun personality...PLEASE let me know! Or, if you know anyone...
I hate to do it, but I don't see any other option and I trust that anyone that belongs to this site would undoubtedly take care of her as well as keep me posted on what is happening with her. =O(
Lemme know if you guys can help. Thanks, guys.

Yes, she is pretty big. She is probably like 6 to 7 inches. I don't know why her shell is whiteish. She has had it like that since I got her two years ago and no one can seem to tell me what the deal is. It's not her shedding her scutes, and it doesn't APPEAR to be shell-rot to me because it doesn't resemble the pics I have seen of shell-rot.
Anyway, I understand the desire to have a baby turtle. That is the exact reason why I don't wanna give her to a pet store. I don't think anyone would buy her on account of her unattractive shell and the sheer size of her. =O( What do I do with my baby?

Shipping is a possibility as a LAST RESORT. DHL comes up often and here are some good instructions: http://www.turtlerescues.com/shipping_turtles.htm

I would not advise this if there are other options available, if there are health issues with your turtle or if your turtle becomes easily stressed.
